The lights are on
We still don't have a release date for Nintendo's Skylander-like Amiibos (or, for that matter, Super Smash Bros. Wii U, which will use them). However, the company has priced the toys and revealed new titles that will make use of them. Each Amiibo figure will cost $12.99 and the first 12 figures are available for pre-order now. The pilot set includes:MarioDonkey KongPeachYoshiLinkSamusVillagerKirbyFox McCloudPikachuMarthWii Fit TrainerThe figures will play a role in Super Smash Bros. Wii U and other titles, including Mario Kart 8, Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, Mario Party 10, and Yoshi's Woolly World. No specific Amiibo functionality for these titles has yet been detailed.
The figures are also compatible with 3DS via an external peripheral and the New 3DS natively. For more, check out our coverage of Amiibos from E3.
Our TakePricing and pre-order news is all well and good, but it's almost September and there's no release date for these or Super Smash Bros. Wii U. It's time for Nintendo to pin down the date.
