Hyrule Warriors Is Getting Amiibo Support

by Mike Futter on Oct 21, 2014 at 05:49 AM

Nintendo America just announced that the Link Amiibo figure will soon be compatible with Hyrule Warriors. No details have yet been made available on exactly how this will work.

The news comes by way of Nintendo America’s Twitter account, which shared the above image. “#amiibo figure Link with [sic] be compatible with #HyruleWarriors,” the company writes. “Stay tuned for more info.”

Amiibo figures will also be compatible with Super Smash Bros., Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, Yoshi’s Wooly World, and Mario Kart 8. Specific details on integration for most of these titles has yet to be revealed.

We’ll update as soon as we have more to share. For more on Hyrule Warriors, check out our review.

Our Take
The difference between Amiibo figures and Skylanders or Disney Infinity is that in the former case, the physical items are accessories. In Skylanders and Infinity, they are integral to the experience. Amiibos are cute shelf items, but I’ve not yet seen any real reason why they are must-haves. Maybe the Hyrule Warriors details will change that.
