MOGA Announces Full-Sized iOS Controller

by Mike Futter on Sep 10, 2014 at 03:00 AM

When PowerA announced its first iOS controller, the MOGA Ace, in November 2013, the form factor caught us a bit by surprise. Not only did it deviate from MOGA’s traditional design, mimicking console controllers, but it didn’t take advantage of previous innovation.

The MOGA Rebel is a step toward an iOS design that is closer to what the company has made available for Android devices. The new controller features an adjustable arm for smart phones that purports to be able to hold even the largest handsets (which we assume means the newly announced iPhone 6+, too).

The Rebel is a full controller, including both sets of shoulder buttons and two analog sticks. It’s powered by a rechargeable 680 mAh battery. The Rebel unfortunately doesn’t ape the Android-compatible MOGA Power, which can charge a phone.

PowerA has priced the Rebel at $79.99. It will be available on September 17. For a list of games compatible with the MOGA Rebel (including Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, BioShock, Terraria, The Bard's Tale, and Lego titles), visit the company's website.

Our Take
I reported on MOGA’s Android controllers from E3 2013, and I was impressed both with the feel and the responsiveness (bluetooth can be problematic for latency). There are more games coming out that could benefit from a controller (like the recent BioShock mobile release), and I’m getting closer to wanting to shell out the cash for one.
