Aaron Greenberg Named Head Of Marketing For Xbox Games, Entertainment Studios

by Mike Futter on May 16, 2014 at 11:46 AM

After three and a half years of serving as chief of staff of Microsoft’s interactive entertainment division, Aaron Greenberg has a new role. The 16-year company veteran has been named the new head of global product marketing for Xbox first party games, third party titles, and Xbox Entertainment Studios.

In the past, Greenberg has regularly been a spokesperson for the Xbox business and a regular guest on Larry “Major Nelson” Hryb’s podcast. He’s also known for being unafraid to take a swing at the competition, and was quoted in a 2009 interview saying that Sony has a “complacent attitude” and is “out of touch with where the industry and consumer is today.”

Greenberg was also one of those at the forefront of Microsoft’s two-stage reveal for the Xbox One in 2013. Now as part of Phil Spencer’s team, Greenberg will be responsible for crafting the messaging around the system’s games and Nancy Tellem’s Xbox Entertainment Studios projects.

With Halo, Sunset Overdrive, Gears of War, and Quantum Break coming, we expect Greenberg will be very busy.

Our Take
Greenberg has a lot of fire, and Microsoft needs that right now. He’s outspoken and bold, and putting him in charge of an area that is largely about positive news will focus that in the right direction. Microsoft is playing from behind and showing as much energy as possible will help immensely.
