Minecraft On Xbox 360: Over 12 Million Served

by Mike Futter on Apr 04, 2014 at 04:49 AM

Microsoft and Mojang have announced the Xbox 360 version of Minecraft has sold over 12 million units. Unfortunately, there’s no news yet on when we can expect the title on Xbox One.

The Xbox 360 version was released in May 2012, and since then has received a number of updates, skin packs, and even Mass Effect, Skyrim, and Marvel Mash-Up packs. The title has sold well digitally and at retail, placing it on numerous NPD top ten lists (measuring United States retail sales only).

A candy texture pack is coming on April 18. When an Xbox One version is finally released, console players will have their dreams of larger worlds fulfilled. Mojang says the world size limitation is due to some Xbox 360 units not having a hard drive.

Our Take
Minecraft continues to enchant gamers of all ages, and the only thing that will slow it down is market saturation. Of course, with a new version coming to Amazon’s Fire TV, Mojang’s masterpiece will continue to print money for some time to come.
