Student-Created Borderlands Short Film Gets A Preview

by Kyle Hilliard on Dec 13, 2013 at 03:12 AM

Gearbox recently teamed up with the Academy of Art University to have students submit storyboards to create an animated short film based in the Borderlands universe. A short preview shows how the short is progressing.

The short is called Bride of Frankentrap from student Leslie Harwood and was chosen for animation from a pool of 14 different storyboard animatic submissions from teams encompassing more than 100 students. You can see the original animatic here. Along with Harwood and the rest of team receiving the opportunity to fully animate their submitted short, they've also won the opportunity to interview for internships at Gearbox.

The preview, which you can see on the official Borderlands Cooperative Facebook page, shows the first minute of completed animation for the short and is labeled as a near-final preview. The full video should appear on YouTube this month, before the end of the year.

Our Take
The partnership between Gearbox and Academy of Art University is pretty inspired. Gearbox gets a free promotional short film for the Borderlands series, and animation students looking for work get a fair bit of exposure. Seems like a sweet deal for everyone.
