Battlefield 4 Gets More Patches, Free Scope For All

by Mike Futter on Dec 06, 2013 at 05:17 AM

EA and DICE continue to repair Battlefield 4, and new patches have been rolled out on a number of platforms to address some of the issues.

Yesterday, DICE rolled out a new multiplayer update (Multiplayer Update 3) on Xbox 360. Note: you must manually download this from the Marketplace, and you will not be prompted to download it.

This patch addresses a number of things:

  • Reduced the risk of a crash when transitioning from one multiplayer round to another
  • Fixed a crash that could occur when creating decals (bullet hit effects, etc.)
  • Fixed a crash that could occur when leaving vehicles
  • Fixed a crash that could occur when moving outside of the intended play area
  • Fixed a crash that could occur when firing the MBT and IFV gunner incendiary weapon
  • Fixed a crash that could occur when opening the Options menu
  • Fixed a problem with weapon accessories using up too much memory, which in turn could lead to crashing

This also addresses the one-hit kill problem, but DICE has discovered another issue with hit syncing. Some users are reporting that they are being killed rounding a corner before they even see the opponent. This patch is the first step in improving the problem, and it's live on all other platforms already except Xbox One.

Additionally, DICE has rolled out a new server version that fixes problems with Commander mode. It also unlocks the M1911 3x pistol scope for all players (not just those that took part in the double experience event).

EA has seen a rebound in its stock value following yesterday's slide. The drop was a reaction to EA's announcement that DICE's future Battlefield 4 DLC and other projects are on hold until the core Battlefield experience is repaired. Stock prices are up 5.5 percent, largely recovering yesterday's loss.

Our Take
Looking at the Xbox 360 patch list, it's a wonder this game ever shipped. Crashes were occurring when leaving vehicles or when opening up the options menu. These are fairly routine activities during a Battlefield match, and are things that should have worked flawlessly from the moment Battlefield 4 hit retail.
