Disney Infinity Off To Strong Start With 294,000 Units Sold In First Two Weeks

by Mike Futter on Sep 17, 2013 at 03:29 AM

Disney Infinity has been out for approximately one month now, and officials at the company are pleased with the game's performance. The title charted at number two in August NPD's report in a month that showed an uptick in sales for the first time since November 2011.

Speaking with GamesIndustry International, a Disney representative reported that 294,000 starter packs were sold in the United States in the first two weeks. This does not include additional figures, playsets, and power discs.

Disney Infinity will be supported in the coming months with new figures, Disney-created free toy box downloads, and user-generated content contests. For more on Disney Infinity, read our review.

Our Take
This is a strong start for Disney Infinity, and it bodes well for the interactive division as a whole. Early performance, while important, won't matter unless the game and its accessories do well throughout the holiday season.

While Disney Infinity and Skylanders are two very different properties, less informed parents might not see beyond the physical-meets-digital commonalities. Whether Infinity can stand up against the third Skylanders title, Swap Force, remains to be seen.
