NHL 14 Demo Dated

by Matthew Kato on Aug 14, 2013 at 04:07 AM

With the guarantee of a full NHL season this year, fans should be more excited than ever to get their hands on NHL 14. The NHL season might not start until October, but EA Sports is giving you a taste of NHL 14 very soon.

The demo – which can be downloaded on PlayStation Network and Xbox Live – hits on August 20, and features the traditional Play Now mode, NHL 94 Anniversary Mode, and a mini Hockey Ultimate Team (HUT) tournament. The first two feature the Bruins and the Blackhawks in the third period, while the HUT portion makes you run the gauntlet of the Halifax Mooseheads, Grand Rapids Griffins, Bruins, and Blackhawks. Winning a game in the tourney as well as the tourney itself gets you free card packs for use in the full-game's HUT (equivalent to a Silver Pack in the mode).

NHL 14 comes out for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on September 10. For more on the work being done on the game's goaltenders, check out this recent video.

Our Take:
It's nice to see EA include NHL 94 Anniversary mode in the demo – a selling-point for the game that could be as popular as the rest of the entire game. Although I'm sure many fans would rather they just include the original game instead. Perhaps they'll sell it as a digital download.
