The lights are on
As we inch ever closer to the next generation, one question keeps emerging from the Nintendo faithful (and everyone else who owns a Wii U). Are these great-looking titles coming to my Gamepad-enabled Mario machine? Bethesda is the latest to offer an answer.
In a conversation with Joystiq at QuakeCon, Bethesda's vice president of public relations and marketing didn't offer much hope. All announced Bethesda titles will be skipping the Wii U as of now.
That doesn't mean that the publisher is closing the door on Nintendo's console, though. In fact, Hines' response has nothing to do with the Wii U's install base, but instead the hardware capabilities. Should a title emerge that could be tuned down for the Wii U's specs, it could very well see release.
Unfortunately, that means that those looking forward to Wolfenstein: The New Order, The Elder Scrolls Online, and The Evil Within will have to get their fixes elsewhere. For reference, Hines also mentions that The Elder Scrolls Online would have been released on the Xbox 360 (and presumably the PlayStation 3) if the hardware had been up to snuff.
Our TakeWhen we hear from publishers about versions of games (or modes within them) skipping the Wii U, the conversation typically lands on the console's install base. In many ways, that's a good thing. Nintendo can always sell more units (and with the upcoming lineup, we should be seeing an uptick).
Nintendo can't change the hardware though, at least not without splitting the install base. While Hines doesn't shut the door on Wii U development outright, it's hard to imagine that developers will have a progressively easier time down the road down-shifting development for the Wii U.

Can't say I'm surprised or angry, nothing on the Wii U is making it worthy of a purchase. And you can't really blame developers for not wanting to waste time coming up with some way to make use of the gamepad.
Wow I really don't care what they are saying about the console I don't find it appealing at all I'm not sorry for say it. I just want to know if vavle drops the steam box where would Nintendo stand.
Good, I don't want them to "down-shift" for the Wii U. Instead, I want to see unique content on the Wii U made specifically for that system
Does this surprise anyone? I'm slightly positive that Bethesda has never made anything for a Nintendo console before anyways.
shocker just wondering, why don't they release Morrowind to the wii-u
We Wii U people will not take this laying down! We rather it standing up.....
With all the unfortunate Wii U news lately, I am not really surprised
I personally don't care. I'm making it a goal next gen to stick with my computer, and the Wii U for games I can't get on PC (maybe the Wii U won't exactly be flooded with IP's like the other consoles, but it feels like it's good enough for me).
Or ever. lol
