The lights are on
In its second quarter 2013 financial earnings report, Activision has shared that Skylanders is now a $1.5 billion franchise worldwide. Additionally, the most recent entry, Skylanders Giants, was the best selling console and handheld game in the North America in Europe (financially).
Call of Duty: Black Ops II and Skylanders Giants were the top two best selling games in North America and Europe combined. World of Warcraft subscriptions have decreased to 7.7 million subscribers (down from 8.3 million in the first quarter), but is still the biggest MMO in the world.
Our TakeSkylanders has been a powerhouse for Activision, but Bobby Kotick mentioned on the earnings call that there are more titles this year competing in their space. He was no doubt referring to Disney Infinity. While the two games are very different, parents are going to see "the games with the toys." Further differentiation and continued strong marketing will be key for keeping the franchise strong with Skylanders: Swap Force

It'll be interesting to see how Skylanders does this next year with Disney Infinity on the horizon. It's anyone's game at this point
So long as Activision keeps pumping out variant and limited edition toy models, they'll be flush with cash. The online market for these things is ridiculous.
That looks like Ratchet with that inferno power up where he can use 2 wrenches.
My kids and I play both Skylanders and Giants on a regular basis, although we don't have the complete set, safe to say I spent nearly $1000 on Skylanders alone trying. One thing I like about it, is the ability to leave the figures in the box and still be able to play it on the portal, then one hit of a button wipes the chip back to stock and it's still consider new so long as you don't have a dent in it. Initially as a parent I only got into it for collector sake when I saw how valuable some of them were on Ebay, now I have my own Skylanders that I absolutely am addicted too, and to me this put pokecrack to shame. Can't wait for Swap-Force, just wish I could pre-order more than just the first basic set.
glad i don't have kids sitting in front of the TV getting sucked in to this crap and then begging me to buy them hundreds of dollars worth of collectibles. when i was a kid we collected things from chip packets, you could get a whole collection for 40 bucks if you were lucky. encouraging collecting of things that costs like 1000 bucks or more to collect all the things.. that's gross it's just training kids for consumerism
I always thought about trying out Skylanders, but it is really expensive and I don't think the game would be that fun to play.
Skylanders is the new Tony Hawk and Guitar Hero.
Damn WoW used to be at 11 million a few years ago. Looks like it is slowly but surely tapering off.
