Sources: Hitman Project Under Development At Square Enix Montreal Canceled

by Mike Futter on May 13, 2013 at 01:08 PM

Sources have told Game Informer that a new Hitman game under development at Square Enix’s relatively new Montreal studio (not to be confused with Eidos Montreal) has been canceled.

The studio was founded in 2012 with Lee Singleton, formerly of Square Enix’s London studios, at the helm. This news follows disappointing financial performance for the year ending March 31, 2013. In the financial report, Square Enix pinned the 6 billion yen operating loss largely on underperformance of titles in North America and Europe.

Expectations for Tomb Raider, Sleeping Dogs, and Hitman: Absolution were extremely high. Tomb Raider, which has performed better than any other title in the series selling over 3.4 million units still wasn’t enough for company leadership in Japan.

We’ve reached out to Square Enix for comment and will report back as this story develops.
