The lights are on
RPG fans are a vocal and voracious bunch, and that sound of cheering you hear is in response to news that Square Enix is bringing Silicon Studio's Bravely Default to North American shores. The 2014 release was announced this morning during a largely 3DS-focused Nintendo Direct.
Not much was revealed about the title, but we do know that the turn-based battles provide an option to hold attacks for stronger assaults (called "defaulting") or launch into battle from the start. This type of risk/reward structure will hopefully set the combat apart from other RPGs.
Silicon Studio is known to many for their work on 3D Dot Game Heroes. While the wait for Bravely Default: Flying Fairy won't be an easy one, at least we know that it's coming to 3DS in North America.

Saw a lot about this when it came out in Japan. Looking forward to this one for sure!
Yes, yes, YESSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!
It's about time! Jesus f***ing christ, Square - wtf is wrong with you guys for not doing this sooner? Bravely Default is the most promising handheld RPG since Radiant Historia... which turned out to be one of the best RPGs PERIOD, handheld or console or PC-based. I expect great things from this one.
Although the name is stupid. I really expected it to be transformed into a Final Fantasy spinoff for international audiences since they're so similar. Airships, Mages (black and white), crystals... really, calling it "Final Fantasy Heroes" would be fine. Just like the old GB Final Fantasy Legend games (SaGa) and Final Fantasy Adventure games (Mana).
That's pretty dang awesome.
I'm really loving the 2013 and 2014 lineup for the 3DS. Granted, many of these games are Mario/Luigi/Yoshi games, but still, its a pretty good lineup. And at least Nintendo is trying to push out a lot of new content.
