The lights are on
Bungie admits that there is no secret to creating a brand new fictional universe from scratch. In order to create the world of Destiny, Bungie drew hundreds of pieces of concept art, argued about the team’s ideas in meetings, and scraped a lot of concepts and started over before they finally landed on a concept they loved. You can see examples of this concept art in the image gallery at the end of the story.
During an hour-long presentation at the Game Developers Conference, Bungie’s Joe Staten and Christopher Barrett talked about what the company went through to design Destiny’s sci-fi/fantasy setting. Here are a few of the fun facts and details the duo revealed.

Shouldn't it be "How Bungie is Building" not "How Bungie Built," since destiny isn't out yet?
It's strange, they mention all of these eclectic influences, but I actually thought it drew most influence from Dune.
I prefer Fantasy, so it's kind of sad they changed it. But it still looks great.
This is the game of my life! Every spare moment I have is dedicated to thinking about this game! I haven't felt this since Oblivion after spending over 300 hours on Morrowind.
I just can't wait for this one
Is this just a MMO (combat focused only or RPG?) game or is there a SP side with a rich storyline to follow too? Apologies for asking if this has been answered before, but it looks so amazing that I just want to know what sort of game it will end up being.
Bungie have never been good at story but the beautiful look of this game more than compensates for that. I cant wait to play this game.
Very cool and very exciting. I always enjoy Bungie's projects.
Those robots used for the thumbnail reminded me of those small mechanic droids from the pod race sequence in Star Wars Episode 1.
Love the look of the humans, their armor makes em not to big and not to small, just right in between. Enemies look great, it looks like they have a hint of Elites and Brutes, and the Hive, somthing tells me were gona be seeing armies of Hives charging at us.
This game seems like its shaping up to be pretty good.
I'm excited! Hopefully they hold the release off for the new consoles for better graphics. If this was bundled in with the new Xbox or PS4 It would sale me on a new system.
Werewolf like creatures?! ARG..Bungie I've been wanted a good decent console MMO where I could turn into a full ledge creature. (Not Skyrim, but something Worgen like.)
