Batman Dusting Off His Cowl For 2013

Warner Bros. Interactive is preparing the release of another Batman Arkham game. According to a company executive, that new game is slated for 2013.

John Martin, chief financial officer and chief administrative officer at Warner mentioned the game during an investor call.

"[W]e also have a strong games release this year, which will include the next release in the Batman Arkham franchise," he said. "So all in all, we expect Warners to post another very strong year in 2013. And with a little luck, the year should be as good or maybe even a little bit better than 2012."

That opens the doors to some healthy speculation. Is he talking about the rumored Batman game from a while back that's set during the Silver Age? Could it be associated with one of the domain names that Warner registered last month?

VG247 cites unnamed sources who say that Rocksteady isn't working on the next Batman game. Could we be looking at something resembling the Call of Duty model, where Activision has two teams alternating between annual releases? If something is indeed coming this year, we'll be hearing more details soon enough.

  • No Rocksteady, no Batman game purchase.
  • I guess I should play the Arkham City game I picked up at launch and still haven't opened. I'm slacking.
  • Won't hold my breath for an Unreal 4 powered Batman game, but that would be cool. The other two games looked great, but the extra muscle from that engine, plus the possibility of new console launches would make a Batman Arkham game a great system mover, even if Rocksteady may not be making it. Retro Studios did a great job with Metroid and Donkey Kong, and 343 Industries made a fantastic Halo, so who's to say the new guys won't make as good or even better Batman game?
  • The insulting thing is that Warner Bros probably thinks that no one cares about the developer and the game will sell like gangbusters off the title alone. Unfortunately, they're probably right. We, the informed consumers, are not the majority.
  • Looks like I need to get Arkham City. Looking forward to it, as long as Rocksteady is going to be doing it. If not, no thanks, I'll stick with the other two.

  • my back log of games have taken over in my room, I'll get this maybe

  • New Batman. Woo. New Dev. We shall see.

  • Why? Why would you have someone else make a Batman Arkham game? I hope this isn't true.
  • This is hands down my most anticipated game of 2013, I was really looking forward to it being announced during the Spike VGA's.

  • How's about you show a molecule of vision and and pull Gotham by Gaslight back from the abyss.
  • If its not Rocksteady I don't give a hoot. Don't milk this series, take your time with it and make sure its by Rocksteady. Is that too much to ask?
  • Isn't this the game that is supposed to be set in the silver age of comics or something like that.
  • big city with batmobile please i want it to go down like that
  • This place is dangerous... I like it!

  • Looks like I'm not the only one worried that RockSteady isn't developing this.
  • As much as I love Batman, I really hope it doesn't become a series that has a regular release. And I don't know if I'd play it if Rocksteady isn't behind the helm.
  • 2013?! Don't you think that's too early?? We should be getting a Batman Arkham game for 2014... Maybe.... I guess Rocksteady was working on the prequel secretly since last year, right after the Harley Quinn's Revenge DLC came out. I'm hoping for either Scarecrow, or any other Batman villain to return. Heck put in Deahstroke!!!
  • No prequel. Please...

  • This better be more like 343 with Halo or Treyarch with Call of Duty than Team Ninja with Metroid or Rare with Star Fox.
