No, you haven't jumped several years into the future. Electronic Arts has revealed that the next installment of Madden is ditching the calendar year in the name, opting instead to call attention to the series' 25th anniversary. This confirms earlier reports to the same effect.
According to EA's press release, Madden NFL 25 will launch on August 27, and fans will once again be able to vote on the cover athlete starting March 11. If you want more details about how the game plays and how it will celebrate its heritage through various features, you're out of luck. For the time being, the name change and release date are all EA is putting forward in terms of concrete info.

I for one hope it's based in the year 2025 and they try to guess what new rules, players, and features will be in the game.

I followed a rule where I only bought even numbered Maddens. Now I will not be purchasing a Madden game until 2016. Your loss EA. ;)

Why isn't it just madden 14 with special 25th anniversary features
It feels like its the 25th entry into the franchise. so many of these things out there and they all look the same to me. Cant wait for Madden 100 NFL 50th Anniversary. Sounds just as stupid as this title doesnt it?
Maybe they could just slap an extra sticker on it like they did with Madden '09?
Hmmm.... What can EA improve on in Madden.... Maybe a better online and a way more in depth Superstar/Career Mode.

Uh... it's confusing because the title is making absolutely no distinction from the year titles. It looks like the logo for the 2024 game. I'd have felt better if they called it Madden NFL 25th.
Meanwhile in the future: EA-"Crap, we already used 25! I guess we'll just celebrate another anniversary. Introducing Madden 14, the game no one remembers because it hasn't happened yet!"

Don't understand why they would call it this. Why not just "Madden 14" with "25th Anniversary edition" on the box. They're doing it this way for attention
If the name is different and it is the anniversary going on then I expect the game to have big improvements. I doubt it though.
