EA Announces Madden NFL 25

No, you haven't jumped several years into the future. Electronic Arts has revealed that the next installment of Madden is ditching the calendar year in the name, opting instead to call attention to the series' 25th anniversary. This confirms earlier reports to the same effect.

According to EA's press release, Madden NFL 25 will launch on August 27, and fans will once again be able to vote on the cover athlete starting March 11. If you want more details about how the game plays and how it will celebrate its heritage through various features, you're out of luck. For the time being, the name change and release date are all EA is putting forward in terms of concrete info.

What do you think about the name? What changes are you hoping to see in this installment?

  • Ummm...what's gonna happen when 2025 rolls by?
  • Bring back EA Trax. The NCAA style music is pretty cool, but I miss buying a Madden and checking out the songs they put in.
  • Just once, I want them to not take any steps backward. It seems that every year, no matter how great they may make one feature or another, something else inevitably slides through the cracks, thus putting us in this endless cycle. Just once, I want a game that is better or equal in ever way.
  • i'm voting for tiger woods.
  • It works for Mario Kart 7 because they don't name everything by year. Looks like an attention grab at most.

  • Unless it's ESPN 2K25 I won't bother. Yes, I'm *that* guy. Until EA stops packaging a mediocre product very year and actually makes great strides with their on-field gameplay, I won't be cajoled into buying their crap just because it's NFL licensed. I feel as though I've been robbed since they bought exclusive rights out from under 2K Games. Who knows what heights healthy competition would've driven virtual football by year 2013.
  • 13 was really the first step forward for Madden ever and I hope 25 is just as improved .

  • That's not confusing. Even just calling it Madden NFL 25th would be less dumb.
  • That might be a confusing title, but whatever floats their boat. I'm just waiting for them to release Madden Online. That way they can just update changes for gameplay, rosters and modes rather then releasing the same game every year. I just want the franchise to improve.

  • Hopefully it adds some drastic changes and isn't just a year over year improvement. They should take a note from the 2K basketball games, those are awesome even though they come out each year.
  • Maybe when 2025 comes around they'll just repackage used copies of this. Or pull a Final Fantasy. Madden NFL 25-2.
  • "...and fans will once again be able to vote on the cover athlete's impending doom on March 11." Good luck brave soul.
  • Madden's presentation needs the most work. When I play NBA 2K13, I feel like I'm actually watching an NBA game. Madden's presentation is dull, and the commentary is out of sync at times.
  • Sweet Jesus how long was I asleep?
  • I don't think they're fooling anyone.

  • can't wait still loving 13

  • Not exactly creative. My feeling is "meh" about this. Give me some details about game content such as improved scouting and offseason modes and I'll be happier.
  • EA knows consumers are getting tired of yearly releases so to combat that, they give it a new number that will make fans think they are getting something different from Madden 13
  • Very dumb name. What will name Madden in 2025 if Madden is still around. Madden 25-2? Also, the biggest change I would like made to Madden is stopping production and deletion of all of the code and engine. They should then give the rights to 2k so they can make a fun football game with good AI and fun mechanics.
