Bungie To Discuss Destiny Project At Game Developer's Conference

While some details regarding Bungie's new franchise Destiny have already leaked, we'll soon know more about the highly anticipated project.

At the upcoming Game Developer's Conference, Bungie's design director Joe Staten and art director Christopher Barrett will give a lecture entitled "Brave New World: New Bungie IP" which will discuss the process of creating a brand new video game franchise.

Here's the description from the GDC site:

"Two decades of success in the gaming industry is no small feat, but after ten years of Halo, Bungie found themselves faced with a tremendous challenge: to build a whole new world, filled with even more amazing mysteries, places, creatures, and opportunities for player investment. For the first time ever, Bungie creative directors will discuss their world building techniques, from concept to production. Attendees will walk away with key insights into Bungie's battle-tested design process. They'll get a glimpse of the brave new world that has been built, a place where the next ten years of great Bungie adventures will unfold."

The Game Developer's Conference takes place on March 25-29 at the Moscone Convention Center in San Francisco. As of this writing, there is no specific time, date, or location given for the Bungie presentation.

The Destiny project is said to involve multiple games and will be published by Activision.

  • Awesome possum.
  • I hope it doesn't remind me of halo with gameplay, but easter eggs are welcomed

  • Perhaps my most anticipated game yet. I'm really excited to hear more about this game and where Bungie is heading. I love Bungie...

  • Cool. This could make or break the 720.
  • Bring back Marathon.

  • Bungie's new games are going to be multiplatform, correct? If so I might check this out on my PS3 (provided the details from the game continue to sound pretty coolio)
  • This will be one of those games I buy day 1 no matter what I hear about it.
  • I loved what became of Bungie, after being virtually unknown, to titan in the Gaming industry with just a single franchise. My only worry, this time around, is that they are so well known. I just don't want the media to blow things out-of-proportion and set the bar higher than Bungie intends for this new series. That being said, I still have full confidence in this new project because Bungie's track record demands it.
  • glad these guys are away from the halo IP. now they can express themselves creatively without being tied down to make halo game after halo game.
  • Very excited about this. I'm ready to migrate from Halo considering where that series is heading.

  • I just hope it has a little more going on than just a typical FPS.

  • As the poster said: Destiny awaits.

  • Aliens and shooting?!?!?! Wow, Bungie is REALLY stepping out of their comfort zone with this one! *rolls eyes* I have no doubt that the game will be good, I just wish they were going with a more unique concept.
  • What if it were like Killzone/Halo? 0_o /drools
  • srngnasjgnsjnarjhba BUNGIE!
  • I hope this is as good as halo

  • Oh shiggity diggity! Can't wait to see what they have been working on!

  • I expect we'll have a reveal prior to GDC, sometime between early February and early March. It was mentioned on their website that Destiny was going to be played at their Winter Pentathlon, which is usually late January/early February, but it's going to be kept under wraps during that time. It'll definitely be on Bungie.net first. They've said for a while that they want their community to know first.
