Details On Bungie's Next Game Leak Online

A number of details regarding Bungie's next game, Destiny, have leaked online and Bungie has confirmed that they are accurate.

The leak comes from IGN, where details of the game's story are revealed as well as a number of art assets. In response to the leak, Bungie officially released the image above along with the following information:

"Go ahead. Take a peek. It’s alright. We weren't quite ready, but we will be soon, and we can’t wait to finally show you what we've really been up to. Stick around, we haven’t even started yet."

The leak comes from a document created by an advertising agency that was put together as a presentation for Destiny and had the following description for the game:

“Our story begins seven hundred years from now in the Last City on Earth, in a Solar System littered with the ruins of man’s Golden Age. A massive, mysterious alien ship hangs overhead like a second Moon. No one knows where it came from or what it’s here for, but only that it’s our protector. Meanwhile, strange, alien monsters creep in from the edge of the universe, determined to take Earth and the Last City. We are young ‘knights’ tasked with defending the remains of humanity, discovering the source of these monsters and – eventually – overcoming it.”

The advertising document goes on to refer to the, "massive mysterious alien ship," as the Traveler, and says that Bungie is seeking to make Destiny as universally accessible as the Star Wars universe. Bungie's co-founder Jason Jones described Destiny saying it, "is designed for your inner seven year old. We want to make it feel like a mythic adventure.” Bungie has pointed out in that past that one of the reasons it decided to work with Activision was because of its impressive online infrastructure leading many to theorize that Bungie's next game may be an MMO. As part of the leak, the gameplay of Destiny is described as “social at its core,” and has “a world to explore with friends, both old and new,” which lends a little more ammunition to that rumor.

IGN has handful of images from the game on its site, but notes that many of the images are mock-ups from the advertising agency presumably based on Destiny that weren't necessarily created by Bungie.

  • Awesome! Go Bungie! I always love having a new SciFi world to explore. Also it looks like this is going to have a Fall 2013 release date according to their contract.

  • Reminds me of "Gone with the Blastwave" for some reason.
  • Interesting.  Count me intrigued.

  • I cannot even begin to express the excitement I have felt as this has unfolded.

  • I was hoping for something a little different from 'aliens invade Earth and we must defend her," but I guess that's what Bungie is good at.
  • Sweet! Im anxious to see what Bungie comes up with.

  • Sweet. That peice of concept art looks awesome. Can't wait to see the more.
  • Looks steampunkish. Anyway, I'm most definitely interested.

  • Well, what's all this then....

  • The Star Wars influence s pretty clear just from that image above. Looks awesome! Can't wait for more details, Bungie is always awesome.

Also, the probability that this will be coming out multiplatform on next-gen hardware makes me really excited.

  • That looks interesting...and the pic is pretty sweet too.  Reminds me of Star Wars and Fallout :P

  • I respect Bungie and am confident in their abilities, but I just hope the story is more mature then what the info from the document and the co-founder's description leads me to believe.
  • Sweet! Can't wait to hear more. I'm not much of an MMO fan, but I think I'd change that if this new game is any indication. While the whole alien invasion thing isn't anything new, Bungie knows how to thread an inspiring yarn.
  • I don't know about this. I'm not really a fan of the premise since i don't really like star wars aside from the lightsabers and force powers. I'm kind of disappointed, I thought bungie would go more out of their familiarity zone. It feels too similar to halo based on the description and picture. I will keep an eye on this though.

  • I like it how he says you'll see it "soon" I'm calling seeing a trailer at the spike vgas!!!

  • Aliens AND guns?! Bungie's really going out on a limb. I dunno... high chance of failure on this one.
  • If not an mom i will be interested, just mt ype of game
  • Hopefully it's multiplatform (I think it is, but I don't actually know). In any case it looks cool, hopefully they do more than just make a shooter.
  • I hope it's a RPG or at least has RPG elements.
  • The concept art looks neat. It reminds me of the opening to Final Fantasy 6 where the magitek armors are walking in the snow. Can't wait to see more.
