The Wii U Version Of Dragon Quest X Will Have Orchestrated Music

Dragon Quest X, which hasn't yet made it stateside yet, is getting a port to the Wii U. Alongside HD graphics, the game will also get an all new orchestrated soundtrack. The news comes from Jump Festa where Yuji Horii and producer Yosuke Saito said that while the soundtrack will not be completely orchestrated, the majority of it will be, on the Wii U.

Despite the game's ambiguous North American fate, we posted a trailer for the Wii U version of the game recently.

  • AWESOME!

  • ok

  • I can't understand why SquareEnix has made this move. Skipping over possibly tens of millions of units sold by making it exclusive to Nintendo's consoles seems a terrible move for a series that's been around since the 80's. Weak...
  • Sweet.

  • Is there a reason why its not orchestrated in the regular Wii version? The Galaxy games and Skyward Sword handled orchestrated soundtracks just fine.
  • NICE!

  • So it's going to the Wii and the WiiU. They're probably going to have two different discs for the two different systems, but if I were making it, I'd have one disc that plays the Wii version in the Wii but self-updates in the WiiU. Like it has the standard definition and synth music in the Wii, but pop it over to the WiiU and the high-definition and orchestrated music are presented. Also, I'd have a way to have characters created and developed in on version be able to interact or be brought over to the other.
  • in order to thank everyone, characteristic, novel style, varieties, low price and good quality, and the low sale price. Thank everyone

  • ... Why not the Wii version too?
  • That's actually a really cool upgrade to the game.

  • Nice.

  • This is good. Square-Enix redid Dragon Quest 8's soundtrack for western release, thinking fully orchestrated would be more palettable (and more contemporary) to western audiences. Hey, I mean, we love our chiptunes here too, but you don't go out into the same retail space with productions like Skyrim and bring a chiptune soundtrack, yeah? This bodes well for Dragon Quest X's western release potential. You don't go through the trouble of this unless you AT LEAST have an eye on western release. Not to mention, I'm sure Nintendo's thinking about publishing it. Dragon Quest IX was something they got behind, and while it certainly didn't sell Mario or Zelda numbers (few things do, of course), I'm sure they were happy with it. Especially how it took up an otherwise empty window in the release schedule. The Wii U could use more quality games, and Nintendo would be able to say, "We have a big MMO on our console". Nintendo and Square-Enix would be wise to try and get Dragon Quest X over here... Although I'm sure Nintendo's also got Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate on their table too. Both Dragon Quest and Monster Hunter fall into that category of, "Huge in Japan, need some help in the West". But Nintendo should honestly just bring both over - again, the Wii U needs quality games. Especially next year, when the Wii U is going to look downright shabby next to the Playstation 4 and Xbox Durango. Even the Ouya is doing more interesting stuff, technologically.
  • Unfortunately I have lost lots of faith in Square-Enix and it pains me to say it. They were the deciding factor on my system purchases. In recent years they games they have been coming out with are not up to snuff with what they used to be and with Final Fantasy 14 being what it was makes it even worse. Chances are I will be passing on this game.
  • I Should really play this.

  • cool but ... they turned it into a mmo er whatever instead so i'll pass sadly

  • hy visit mu submit please :)

  • Agree with ashaman , it's a bad move cause its a new console ( WiiU ) and has a much smaller install base of people apt to buy it, then the Wii has a very weak online component so you would think they would put it on PS3 which is also a Japanese console and does better there than here where the 360 is a little more popular. Also Playstation actually does have a handheld potentially capable of running the game , doesn't vita have HD and wii doesn't . And we know the PS3 could run it ...
