The lights are on
The United States Patent & Trademark Office has denied Microsoft the renewal of the Killer Instinct trademark due to potential conflict with a defunct Fox TV show.
The show of the same name only aired one season back in 2005, but the office decided that the trademark descriptions could be construed as similar, and in the end the resulting products might cause confusion.
Microsoft can appeal the decision.
In September, the company moved to renew the trademark.

Read: patent office saw two things with same name, hit deny without researching, are dumb, inconsiderate jerks.
confusion how if i never heard of the show but only the game. And the game came first and i think theres a old movie by the same name thats even older then the game. MS get back in there bring this game back now!!!!
So when MS is trying to make a good game the courts and Fox channel deny them that. I swear, Fox has been at my bad side ever since the Mass Effect romance part.
I know they are rival companies but this is a case where Microsoft should parnter with Nintendo in getting this trademark passed or a least purchased from Fox.
Uh...how about make a new trademark?
Oh screw you, Fox. Screw you and your graveyard of cancelled mediocre shows.
That is most ridiculous. Someone should try and chalk up the failed Fox tv show as another "worst live action adaption of a video game." That should be easy since it had nothing in common with Killer Instinct. Can't they renew the game as just KI?

So, my question is this... How did that crummy Fox show get the OK to use that name considering Killer Instinct came out 10 years before that show...????
Next question, why didn't we have a Killer Instinct game for the 360 with Perfect Dark 0??? Poor Rare... never should have left nintendo... They are now just a footnote.
You know fox has a history of this... Right after Perfect Dark came out they came out with a show about a hot spy called "Dark Angel" Anyone remember that...? Fox loves to ride em some coat tails....
Well, it'd be nice to see again...
Yes, because we all know Fox Network has such meaningful shows that anyone in their right mind who would copyright them is a dead man. >_>
So, a fighting game that while never as popular as Street Fighter, is beloved, versus a TV show that never got off the ground.
Yeah, nice ruling.
thats why everyone sucks
