Killer Instinct Trademark Renewed

Perhaps Microsoft is planning on doing something with Killer Instinct after all. While there's no real details to work with here, Microsoft confirmed it renewed the trademark for the classic fighting game from Rare.

"Our legal eagles have authorized us to say: 'We have either renewed or refiled a trademark application in various jurisdictions,'" Microsoft said on PlayXBLA.

This move likely means Killer Instinct is arriving on Xbox Live Arcade in the near future instead of Rare developing a completely new game. We'll have to wait and see.

I wish they would make a new Killer Instinct game. I would preorder that sucker the first chance I'd get. With today's technology...oh the possibilities.

It would be nice if Microsoft, you know, actually took advantage of all the IPs that RARE has created. Here's hoping for either a new or re-release.

I think if they decided to release a new Killer Instinct, it would or at least could compete well with current games in the market. I always felt Killer Instinct was on par with Mortal Combat, maybe even better because of the variety of fighters. With Injustice coming though and a new DoA, as well as Capcom's continuous slew of fighting games, I'm not too certain adding another choice into the mix would go well. I'd buy it for certain if that helps at all Microsoft lol.

This game needs a serious come back. This game was just as important as Mortal Kombat was when it came out. I remember having to wait in line at an arcade just to play this beast of a game. They should definitely develop a follow up!

A little elbow grease and love and I can see KI making a good comeback. The real question is how much rust Rare has when it comes to tweaking the combos and character balance in a fighting game.

That's Cool!!! I can't wait to go back and play KI1 and KI2(Gold)!!! Although, I thought Nintendo had some sort of partial ownership between them and Rare. There has to be some kind between the two if it was Microsoft's lawyers who made this statement. Maybe thats why we can't get a NEW KI for either Nintendo or Microsoft but just REreleases.

It's most likely a re-release. Knowing Microsoft they would have Rare develop Killer Instinct Kinect.
