NBA 2K13 Cryptically Breaks The Series' Sales Records

Publisher 2K Sports announced today that the latest installment in its NBA 2K basketball series has broken first-week sales records for the franchise. The game sold 49 percent more copies than its previous record-holder, NBA 2K11.

Don't bother asking for specific sales figures, though. The only other stat 2K is providing right now is that NBA 2K13 is more popular internationally than ever before, selling 66 percent more copies overseas than 2K11.

"Our early sales figures are a validation of our ongoing efforts to push this franchise to new heights," says Jason Argent, vice president of marketing for 2K Sports. "We owe it to our great fans to continually improve our title  year in and year out — and that's exactly what we've done with NBA 2K13."

It's a healthy start for what could be an astonishing final figure. After all, the 2011 version sold about 4 million copies.

  • That's odd....I thought NBA Live 13 would sell more than 2K. I guess there's a first time for everything.
  • It's amazing having played this series every year since 2K6 on Xbox 360 and seeing each and every game improve. I thought 2K11 was as good as it was going to get. 2K12 crushed that belief. I thought ok 2K12 is sick how are they going to top it? Answer: 2K13. Congrats 2KSports and the success and keep on giving us the best NBA simulation ever made!!!

  • Hmmm seems kinda sketchy. Like there is some number or statistic that they didn't account for in the 2k11 sales that they are for the 2k13 sales that are making it seem like they sold a crap-ton more.

  • Sales figures is something most companies tell once and never again. For example Fallout 3 sold 6 Million by the end of 2008, and the sales were never talked about again. Same with Skyrim 11 Million in 2 months, which was the end of the year. We haven't heard about it since. I wish they would tell us at the end of every year. Some of us might want to know.
  • If you ask me, the only things that keep. this game from being perfect as far as I'm concerned is player movement and passing. When you try to redirect your player or start sprinting they take 10 years to respond to your controls. NBA Live 10's player movement was perfect and was responsive as soon as you made the move. And the passing still sucks Balls it hasn't improved one bit. Other than that awesome game. Oh yeah, and the online lag is still horrendous.
  • What did they expect, a drop? With no competition, of course their sales figures went up.
  • Seems like 2K is getting greedy also with no competition. Just look at the VC system.

  • I guess having Jay-Z as Executive Producer must've done the trick! Here's hoping 2K gets that guy on all their games in the future. "Borderlnds 3: Brought to you by JAY-Z" and "Bioshock Infinite: a JAY-Z Production". ;)

  • Hahahha nice.

  • Too bad nba elite isnt around, always been better then that 2k crap.... terrible dribbling physics.

  • i cant wait for the chance to get this, not cause its "produced by jay" but cause of all the customizations it has to offer.

  • jayz & b probably bought the majority of those in stock.

  • That's great.
