The lights are on
Last week Keiji Inafune teased an upcoming zombie game, Yaiba. At a pre-TGS event in Japan, the Mega Man creator revealed that the full title for this game is Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z.
During a Team Ninja press conference, Inafune showed up, wearing a Dawn of the Dead shirt, to talk about Yaiba, a game about ninja's and zombies, two of Inafune's favorite things. Inafune didn't say much about the game, other than that it would star a ninja named Yaiba who would be chasing down Ninja Gaiden mainstay Ryu Hayabusa.
Team Ninja hopes that this new game will turn into a new series. Inafune and his team at Comcept will be working with developer Spark Unlimited – the developer currently working on Lost Planet 3 – to make sure that the game meets both Japanese and Western sensibilities.
Team Ninja didn't announced what systems the game would release on, but cryptically said that the title would release on "consoles," so it's possible that this could be another next gen project. Please look forward to staying tuned for more information about this exciting project.

C'mon guys, we need something new. Mummies? Werewolves? Sparkly vampires? Something, just not more zombies...
This sounds awesome. NGS2 was great in my opinion, and I'm totally digging the new cell-shaded and comic book art style. Slicing through hordes of zombies as a cyborg zombie ninja sounds fantastic, and add a final showdown with Ryu, then I'm sold.
But a question: Is this an alternate timeline in the NG universe?
this looks awesome
I am so sick of zombies. I was sick of ninjas too until Mark of the Ninja, but this looks soulless and generic. I can't believe this is the best that this guy could come up with.
They hope this turns into a new series. I don't know...
looks fun, can't wait.
Ninjas AND zombies?! Oh my...
This actually sounds like a good plot twist: Having the main character from the other games be the target. This is looking good.
might be cool
God I hope that is the animation for the game!
That's incredibly interesting that you are targeting Ryu Hayabusa.
SAAAY... That's pretty nifty!
So this is a collaboration between Comcept, Team Ninja AND Spark Unlimited. Siliconera breaks it down here:
My question is: Since when did Toby Gard - creator of Lara Croft and Tomb Raider - leave Crystal Dynamics (who he joined for Tomb Raider Legend) and head to Spark Unlimited?
There is some genuine super-amazing talent working on this thing, from all 3 studios. Exciting!
wow this is an interesting point in team ninja now.. making Ryu Hayabusa look like a bad guy, haha. tho i havent got my ps3 running at all since 2 yeas (YLOD) i havent bee on my ps3 playing ninja Gaiden but i've always been a happy fan and like this turn of events :)
