I prefer to play as male characters, but Mechromancer?! THAT is an awesome concept & I'll definitely be using this character, though I still plan to use Zero on my first playthrough.

I'll be playing as Zero solely for the sniper tree. I don't like his melee aspects and will be ignoring them. In fact I may end up playing as the guy with the turret and still using a sniper.

I'll get some lightning achievements with Maya, and then I'll wait for Gaige.
