Fez Patch Will Not Be Patched

Last month a Fez patch was pulled because it created a new problem with the game. The patch is back, but it's the same patch, and sadly, it seems like we've seen the last of Fez patches.

According to the Polytron Blog, last month's patch problem will not be resolved because, "Microsoft would charge us tens of thousands of dollars to re-certify the game." The game save problem that some have experienced only effects a very small percentage of the population, and Polytron believes that, "the current patch is safe for an overwhelming majority of players."

If you're just now starting a new game of Fez or haven't yet completed the game, you should be fine. The new bug only seems to effect those who've already completed the game. Read more about that problem here.

Polytron added an apology saying, "To the less-than-1% who are getting screwed, we sincerely apologize. We know this hurts you the most, because you’re the ones who put the most times into the game. And this breaks our hearts. We hope you dont think back on your time spent in FEZ as a total waste."

You can read more about why Polytron won't be fixing the patch here, but if you haven't yet played the game, now is a good time to start.

  • Why would they charge them for fixing a game?
  • microsoft...
  • If there is a new patch that is the same as the one they released and pulled previously, why didn't they fix the problem instead of putting out the same thing?
  • Way to go Microsoft. Have to pay to patch a game? Do the companies really do that? And to small indie developers? That's a low blow in my opinion
  • So let me get this straight. Microsoft actually charges them to patch the game? Really? Wow Microsoft. Just, wow.
  • I'm sorry Microsoft, but really? I don't own the game but I have got to say, if they try all their might to correct a mistake and help players to the best of their abilities and correct their mistake, then why force them to pay. My condolences go out to them, and the 1% that loses their data.
  • This is why we can't have nice things MS. We don't care about Sesame Street or Xfinity. We care about what the VIDEO GAME CONSOLE was made for: VIDEO GAMES.
  • So, let's recap shall we? 1.) Phil Fish trashes Japanese games for no reason at a major gaming event. 2.) He talks about how Fez is a console game that's meant to be played on a couch with a controller on a Saturday morning, which why it isn't being released on Steam. Keep in mind that patching a PC game would be free. 3.) He also talked about how QA testers (quality assurance) aren't important enough to include in game credits.
  • Ah the dark side of gaming has many faces....This is one of them

  • The whole situations pretty weak.

  • That's too bad, damn patches are expensive.

  • lol it "breaks your heart" but you refuse to let it break your bank account. So "Screw you the 1% of sucka's" says Phil Fish. What a great example of customer service, "Its not my fault that i released a buggy game...its Microsoft's fault!"
  • Ahhh, Karma :)
  • Good thing I already 100% the game ^_^

  • That's probably a good thing then.

  • lol
  • And that's why you don't publish for 360
  • I watched my buddy play this and it looked genuinely enjoyable. I can understand why at first glance, Microsoft comes off as the big bad mega-giant stomping all over indie studios, but anyone with access to the internet and an IQ higher than a jar of mayo can find information than explains how much money is spent on the part of the distributor - Microsoft - to support patches and maintain servers that allow consumers access to the bloody games in the first place. Instead of looking for someone to blame like a predictable herd of jelly-headed cattle, focus on the actual meat of the story: The game is functional. Only a small group of individuals who have ALREADY BEATEN THE GAME (keywords there kids) are affected, so if you are in the middle of a game or just starting, you're in the clear. Otherwise, the studio makes apologies all around. Seriously children, before you open your mouth, make certain what you say is accurate and useful - otherwise, you're not just ignorant, but a gossip and idiot to boot.
  • Thanks Microsoft, you f**king a**holes.

  • The Japanese wouldn't have released a crappy patch and then given up...
