Doom 3 BFG Edition Zeroes In On Release Date

Bethesda announced that an enhanced version of Doom 3 would be coming this fall, but they didn't provide a release date beyond that vague time frame. That's changed, with news that the Doom 3 BFG Edition is coming this October.

More specifically, the game is releasing Oct. 19 on the PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360. As we reported earlier, the BFG adds a host of improvements over the 2005 original. Most noticeably, the graphics have been given a visual overhaul, with support for 3D displays. The game includes both Doom 3 and its Resurrection of Evil add-on, as well as seven new levels dubbed the Lost Mission. Even more critically, the BFG edition includes an armor-mounted flashlight. Finally, no more juggling!

If you're not up to speed on Doom's history, the BFG edition also packs in the original Doom and its sequel.

  • I WANT MOAR INFO ON DOOM 4!!!!!!!!!!
  • I will probably pick this up at some point. I don't think I'll get it in October, already getting 2 games that month.
  • Awesome. Looks like a must buy for anyone who ever played the original, and newcomers to the cllassic series as well. I honestley can't wait to check this out.

  • I'm curious as to how this will work for anyone who's already bought Doom 3 and the expansion from Steam. Will they automatically receive this edition or do they have to pay extra like Crytek did with that "enhanced" version of Crysis 2. FEED ME INFO!
  • Yup.  Buying this.

  • Too bad I already have the PC version of this, still it's good that PS3 players finally get to play this gem of a game.
  • God that game was so scary
  • Man if I get it I really hope I don't resort to the invincibility cheat.... Man that game was wicked hard

  • Really feel like a mounted light will take so much away from the play style of this game
  • Any word on pricing yet?

  • I hope that the beam is narrower or something (like in the mod), because I liked the idea of juggling the flashlight. Made it scarier.
  • Man, out of the whole fall line-up for games this year, October appears to be the craziest month of all of them. Already got several games pre-ordered for that month, so I may have to hold out on this one, just for a bit.

  • The icing on the cake would be to budget price this baby, but even if it's a full $60, I'm getting it. I LOVE Doom 3! Nobody makes a shooter that feels as good as id's shooters - if I have to put up with some monster closets to enjoy the best shotgun in gaming, so be it:) And for the record, I genuinely love the tone of Doom 3. I never played the first Half-Life, and I played Chronicles of Riddick after. Doom 3 was the first game I played that really went out of it's way to set up a foreboding atmosphere, and even in an post-Half Life 2, post-Bioshock world, it's still dang effective.
  • Alright, its a good spot for a release. Several weeks after Borderlands 2 and 2 weeks before Assassins Creed 3 (and LEGO Lord Of The Rings).

  • Wow, three Doom games? I think I'll be getting it.

  • yup... definitely getting this one...

  • october is a busy month for games but i'll most likely pick this up at some point

  • I still have the collector's copy of this for my xbox.  I guess it's good for those that missed this amazing game, but I can't imagine rebuying it.  pointless.

  • You know, I've never played Doom. This makes me want to try it

  • Having to switch in and out of the flashlight led to so many deaths. So. Many. Deaths.
