The lights are on
BioWare today outlined its plan to bring fans closure to the ending of Mass Effect 3. The studio said the DLC will expand on the existing endings, but no further ending DLC is planned.
A new FAQ was posted along with today's announcement that hopefully clears up any questions for fans. "Though we remain committed and are proud of the artistic choices we made in the main game, we are aware that there are some fans who would like more closure to Mass Effect 3," BioWare said.
"The goal of the DLC is not to provide a new ending to the game, rather to offer fans additional context and answers to the end of Commander Shepard’s story."
Additionally, BioWare said it "strongly believes in the team’s artistic vision for the end of this arc of the Mass Effect franchise."
The extended ending DLC is free and out this summer.
It would take quite a bit of explaining and exposition to make that ending make sense, but I guess we'll see if they're up to it. Good to see that it'll be free, they didn't have to do that.
This is exactly what I wanted, no change, just an extension. Thank you Bioware, for not making a fool of yourselves.
I think this is the best choice Bioware can do.
They better makes sense out of all those plot holes the star child managed to *** up in less than 10 minutes.
I still think they should have stood by the original ending. As long as they don't George Lucas it to death I guess it should be ok.
Good. My only complaint with the game was that I thought the series deserved a massive 20 minute cut-scene at the end detailing what happened to everyone. I was hoping that since it didn't happen that BioWare was holding off because the next game would focus on one or a few of them and flesh things out that way... but I guess not.
The 'Mass Effect' series is my favorite videogame franchise... but I disagree with them only making Shepard's story a trilogy. I could play another entire trilogy with Shepard, Garrus, Liara, etc. and be happy as hell about it.
Whew!!! No new ending, just clarification ...for free!!!! I'll take it. Artistic integrity and diplomacy can be peaceful partners. Good call Bioware!!!!
What many people seem to forget is that whether you liked the ending or not, there was absolutely no reward for how well or how poorly you played the game or the series for that matter, and that has been one of Mass Effects biggest selling points for years now. But with ME3, whether you saved everyone or blew up half the galaxy on your way to the final battle, it has absolutely no bearing on the outcome. That's what really pissed off fans. Not Shep dying, not the last minute god child, it's the fact that no matter what we did, our choices didn't matter.
I am glad that they are clarifying the ending and not changing it. I do not have a problem with the ending besides the plot holes, and if those get filled in a way that makes sense, I'll be fine with that.
I agree with all the comments regarding the ME2 crew. They were so well-developed and multi-dimensional characters that it's hard not to miss them :(
Dang, I wanted to ACTIVELY put the galaxy back together, not just watch it happen.
I'm REALLY happy Bioware isn't going to change the endings just clarify the current ones.
Smartest move they could make. Clarify for those who need like me, but not change it for those who like the ending.
