Mass Effect 3: Extended Cut DLC Offers Different Ending

Some fans were mad at Mass Effect 3's ending, and BioWare has capitulated and offered a free DLC download that offers a different ending to the game.

The change will occur through additional cinematic sequences and epilogue scenes. A general date of "summer" has been given for the DLC, but there are no timing specifics beyond that.

“We have re-prioritized our post-launch development efforts to provide the fans who want more closure with even more context and clarity to the ending of the game, in a way that will feel more personalized for each player,” said Casey Hudson, the series' executive producer.

The DLC's free status expires on April 12, 2014, and it requires an internet connection (naturally) and EA Origin registration.

  • I'm happy it's free, I personally felt the ending was good.
  • and in the words of the Joker: " and here we... go!"
  • oh boy, the fun never stops at the bioware. Hopefully all of this debating over this damn game will finally end. Does anyone know if we will still be able to see the original ending if we havent been able to play it yet?

While it's great that they're doing this for the fans, I don't feel they should have done it for free. The "fans" haven't been very civil to say the least.
  • It doesn't matter what they change the ending to, people are still going to complain. Bioware is never going to win with this. Everyone wants a different ending. Once this ending hits, people still won't be happy. Heck, a lot of people will probably want the first ending back.
  • At least EA realizes crapping on it's fan bases head every week isn't a good idea.
  • This feels wrong in so many ways. The integrity of Bioware and also everyone who's been b*tching constantly about the ending is suffering here. It's sad.
  • I'm happy that Bioware listened to their fans. Hopefully this will be the ending that this series deserves! The best part about it is that it's optional and free, so if you liked the ending you don't have to download it and if you didn't like it then you don't have to pay extra for something that should have been done right the first time.
  • While I'm glad this is free because paying for the new ending is an entirely separate can of worms, I'm still slightly sad to see BIOWARE cave in to the madness. On the bright side, more Mass Effect is never a bad thing
  • The DLC will be free until the 12th of April, but doesn't come out until summer...how are we suppose to get it then?
  • I have never played any ME game before but I know many people who have and it was a mixed emotions kinda thing. I do think that all your actions leading up to that point should give a different ending, but I see how they would need a generic ending for all characters for newcomers. I think it's insane that these people are DEMANDING a new ending, but I guess that's the only way to getta response nowadays...
  • So they aren't changing it? Just expanding on it, am I right?
  • Finally, let's just hope it's detailed enough, and consistent.
  • In this ending Shepard beats the Reapers one by one by using Joker as brittle baseball bat, and then they all live happily ever after with Tali's face always being covered by strategically placed objects (Austin Powers style.)

I have a feeling that this will end badly...
  • I'm glad they didn't change their endings entirely. My real beef with the end was the lack of personalization. It looks like they're addressing that so that my ending can be a little more varied, yet hopefully not explain too much of the cliffhanger as to what is going to happen to the universe. I'd like enough to leave it open enough for interpretation, but also enough to make "my" journey's ending to be unique based on my decisions throughout the series. I appreciate that Bioware has done this for the fans like me who wasn't quite ready for the series to end and wanted just a little bit more.
  • i already heard that ots just going to expand on the ending, not change it. which would be better imo.
  • I can't believe Bioware caved......
  • CDProject did it first :P
  • Wasting time on fixing something that wasn't broken. Thanks.
