The lights are on
BioWare issued a statement this morning saying it has made no decision regarding requests to change the endings of Mass Effect 3.
The studio published an update on its Facebook page explaining it is taking all player feedback into consideration. Below is BioWare's full statement.
We are aware that there are concerns about a recent post from this account regarding the ending of the game. In this post it was stated that at this time we do not have plans to change the ending.
We would like to clarify that we are actively and seriously taking all player feedback into consideration and have ruled nothing out. At this time we are still collecting and considering your feedback and have not made a decision regarding requests to change the ending. Your feedback and opinions are of the utmost importance to us. We apologize for any confusion this has caused.
Our top priority regarding this discussion is to keep communication with you, our loyal fans, open and productive.
On Friday, executive producer Casey Hudson published a letter online saying, "This is not the last you’ll hear of Commander Shepard." Numerous online petitions from fans asking BioWare to change Mass Effect 3's endings have surfaced since the game's release earlier this month. One fan claims he filed a complaint with the FTC.
Change it! (We all know the CEOs are sitting back, saying to themselve,"Yeah, like we care what they want. We already milked them for so much money as it is. Hahaha I love moneH!!")
Ok so the main reason im wanting Bioware tweek, extend or flat out change the ending is because the standard they set with Mass Effect 2 was not met in Mass Effect 3.
Its kinda weird to say the standard was set in the second installment of an amazing series, but when you look at the ending of the second game theres no argument. My first playthrough I Beleived I lost Grunt, Zaeed, Jack and Samara. I went to work the next day told my friend about my ending and it was then I realized I must've done something wrong. He explained to me that his whole crew survived so I went home and began my second playthrough. Everyone made it.
If you had the Normandy upgraded, everyones loyalty and gave them jobs they were suited for on the Suicide Misson then they would all survive. By skipping one quest in the second game our ending could end up completly different. In Mass Effect 3 no matter if you cure the genopaghe, save the geth, or the Quarians, Or both it makes no difference to your ending. If after the Mars Mission you had the possibilty to launch the final asault on Earth (If you had the Cruible) it would make no differnce what so ever. Mass effect 3 is a great game up until the final minutes. Yes this is Biowares product and they have every right to say this is our game, and our ending we want. Deal with it. But we as the fans also have every right to ask them to take a second look at how it turned out. My question to Bioware is how do you create Mass Effect 2 where all your choices matter, then create Mass Effect 3 where yes your choices do matter at the appropiate time but not where it matters most. Alot will argue the point, how do you expect one guy/girl (SHEP) to stand against the power of the Reapers alone and come out on top? Well I thought I was gathering support from other races so Shepard wouldn't stand alone in the fight. Im not saying he has to survive but Im still trying to figure out if he beat the reapers at all!?!? I mean when your three options are those its a loss no matter what. If you destroy the Reapers you also destroy the Geth, EDI, and yourself since your half synthetic(Half breathe cliffhanger doesn't count as living). The other 2 options let the Reapers Survive. Thats a Loss. Since the start of Mass Effect Shepard has been Hell bent on Destroying the Reapers. For him/her to sumbmit in the final moments and let them live is Beyond Character Assination. Yes im aware that this all may be indoctrination but thats still a THEORY thats up in the air, its not solid fact
These are strictly my thoughts and opinions so if you dont like them by all means let me know with sound reasoning. Please dont tell me Im simply closed minded and dont understand the "Meaning" behind the Ending. If you feel you need to call me a Whinner, Crybaby, Spoiled etc. Dont bother even responding to this.
I actually disliked the endings a lot. The difference being is that I'm not going on like a child about how Bioware or EA "owes" us for having a crappy ending.
Bioware/EA shot themselves in the foot with them, they'll be remembered for it, that is punishment enough.
I am actually very surprised that BioWare isn't taking advantage of this.
They could easily make another half ass ending and sell it, over priced, to those willing to pay.
I LOVE ME3 but I have to admit, the ending did blow hard. I'm not asking for them to change the endings, I just want some closure. A real simple solution would be the slideshow like they did at the end of DA:O which tells the player what happens with the remaining members and results of the choices you made. That's really what most people want. The current ending makes you feel like none of your choices mattered.
I think they should change it, but hey that's just my opinion.
