The lights are on
It's been over six months since Bethesda decided to sue Mojang, the developer behind Minecraft, because of the indie studio's decision to name an upcoming project "Scrolls." Now that lawsuit is officially ended with both parties apparently pleased.
According to a tweet from Mojang head Markus "Notch" Persson, the two parties have reached a settlement where Bethesda maintains the trademark on the word "Scrolls" while allowing the smaller studio to use the name. Notch says his studio did not have to pay damages to Bethesda as part of the settlement.
This definitely seemed like a frivolous lawsuit from the start, so it's nice to see it taken care of without a long, painful court process. With that out of the way, let's hope we can see more of the Scrolls project from Mojang soon!
Glad they got this settled.
Aside from the fact that the suit was filed in the first place, this was about the most mature way it could end.
oh please. what a stupid thing to sue for.
awwwww...2 gaming companies getting together
Hahahah really? Wow.
realy bethesda you sued notch because his game is called srcolls get over it thats such a waste of time.
Its a good thing That both parties walked with an agreeable term. Bethesda makes, in my opinion, the best console games, and Minecraft is the best PC game. I would hate for either t be canceled for any given reason.
Bethesda is making a big deal out of nothing. It's not like they were the ones that invented the word, or are the ones that own it.
To be honest I think everything just went downhill for Minecraft after 1.7.3.
I love Bethesda and all, but they have quickly lost my respect with how they treat other game companies. Their whole tug of war with Interplay though necessary, was a harsh on how Interplay lost all rights to Fallout, namely Fallout 1, 2 and Tactics. Obsidian loses their bonus for being a fraction off their mark making all their work and effort almost pointless. And then their frivolous nit-pick with Mojang over the use of a word. It just shows how childish they can be, and and expressing their true colors.
Yeah, this whole topic is pretty stupid. Since when can you call dibs on a damn word? If it was like "Ghorritellio" I'd understand, but not an actual, old-ass word like "scroll."
Glad to see it fixed up love both studios not really shure why bethsda did sue thugh its one word and its not like there games at all
Why does everyone say that they should dual at Quake
I hope there's a flood of indie games released with the name "Scrolls." Trademarking a single word is stupid.
