Battlefield 3 Getting Three More Expansions

Following up its first download expansion Back to Karkand, DICE today revealed plans to bring three more expansions to Battlefield 3.

Coming this June a week earlier on PlayStation 3, Close Quarters focuses on tight infantry battles with smaller maps and includes 10 more weapons.

The third expansion is called Armored Kill and is due out this fall. DICE says its all about the vehicle experiences and it has the largest multiplayer map the developer has ever created.

The final expansion reveled is called End Game, but DICE is not talking about it at all right now. It's due out this winter. Pricing detailes for these expansions were not announced.

“Instead of delivering piecemeal map packs, we’re giving players a completely new experience with every themed expansion pack to keep the action fresh," said Patrick Bach, Executive Producer on Battlefield 3. "Our expansions are designed to excite our large and active fan base while attracting new recruits with gameplay that is dynamic and unpredictable every time.”

Battlefield 3 continues to be a massive success for EA. To date, the publisher has shipped 12 million copies of the game since February.

  • Nice to see more weapons. *ahem* first *cough*
  • first!
  • I hope end game really means dinosaur mode :)
  • About dam time! lol

  • Well, we all know what we're waiting for.

    Armored Kill. Bring it on!

  • Well, I hope they don't cost 1200 each. I'm saving some Microsft pints for alen wake and the new gears dlc.
  • Maybe I was just spoiled by how soon Karkand released, but June is a LOOOONG way off in the gaming world. Battlefield in general, BF3 and the Bad Co series, is BY FAR my favorite shooter and the only series besides Gears of War that I spend time playing online... so I'm definitely no hater... but the Karkand pack maps suck and I've been playing the originals since the first night. Everytime one of the Karkand maps pops up in rotation you can literally watch as half the lobby drops out. It's time for something new and I can guarantee you they'll see a drop-off in number of players by June.
  • Awesome!  I was hoping we would see some new content soon.  Not that what we have isn't great, it's just that more is ALWAYS better! It's a fantastic game that I have been enjoying thoroughly.

  • My heart nearly jumped at reading this, but now I'm a bit disappointed. This starts in June?! I mean already the maps we have now are getting a bit stale, and we need more expansion packs. Yes, I understand they take time to make, but we could have at least one in April. That's almost 3 months off if it comes in June. I'm hoping that the patch doesn't take that long either.
  • That's pretty cool.  I love that every screenshot they show with a BF3 story is a PC screenshot.

  • thats cool i wanted more places i could play also it good to have new invirments and such and such

  • The second two sound cool. But Close Quarters sounds like everything I don't want in a Battlefield game. And being able to destroy "entire locales"? Please, I've played BF3 enough to know that's not true.
  • awesome, the only problem is that is so hard to level up in battlefield 3 im only in level 28 and i still havent unlock the new weapons from the first expasion package.
  • This is great! I've been loving battlefield 3, definitely my favorite FPS experience I've ever had. I think I can wait until June, there's still so much in the game I haven't seen!

  • these should be fun btu really curious about end game

  • End Game? Could it be after the end of the Campaign but in MP.

  • Great news. This will be something fun to get me through the summer drought.

  • Oohhh. I like the sound of Close Quarters.
  • Cool, this game is so much better than COD. COD is a good game but Battlefield put the cherry on top. Better graphics,in game vehicles, and realistic combat. Cant wait for the new stuff to drop.
  • Battlefield players aren't going to be getting much sleep this summer.
