Former Mafia Developers License The Crytek Engine For New Open-world RPG

A group of developers whose credits include the two Mafia games recently left 2k Czech to form Warhorse Studios. The company has begun work on its first game, an open-world RPG using the Crytek engine.

Along with Mafia, the developers' credits also include Operation Flashpoint. Warhorse Studios also employs Martin Klima, author of the pen-and-paper RPG, Dragon's Lair.

For those who were hoping for future Mafia installments, you may be in luck. Rumors are pointing to a third Mafia game being developed, although without the team from the first two games.

  • Let's hope it's not generic.
  • Without the team from the first to games? I'm a bit nervous now ಠ_ಠ. Anyways, good luck with the game Warhorse Studios!

    Edit:two*
  • These are the spiteful homo hating slavs that make boring generic mob movies correct?
  • Operation Flashpoint wasn't particularly good... was it? I wouldn't get too excited just yet.

  • Some mild interest has been generated.

  • If it is a Mafia game, I hope it is actually an open world game where you can choose what you do. The last one was kind of a big open world, but you were very strictly directed through it.
  • Open world...RPG...crytek...sounds good to me.
  • Cryengine 3 + RPG + Open world = AWESOMENESS Hope they succeed in their vision.
  • cool beans, and crytek is a plus

  • Wow, hopefully this will be good.

  • Hope it's a fantasy RPG. I can't get enough of them ^^

  • To quote Mafia2: WHAT THE F*CK IS WRONG WITH YOU!? Leaving 2K I mean. an open world, crytek3 RPG would be pretty awesome.

  • skyrim with cryengine 3 here i come

  • Now let's hope the game is actually good this time around
  • Love the group and cant wait to see what they come up with next, hopefully another period peice.

  • Well that's snazzy.

  • cool RPGS are my favorite so i will defintley keep a eye on this.

  • Love CryEngine 3! ^_^

  • That sounds pretty cool. I like my RPGs open.

  • Mafia 3? Mafia 2 was a huge dissapointment and the magazines in the game were unnecessary.
