What Would You Do With 1.4 Million Unsold Games?

THQ's financial troubles are well documented. The company recently announced a restructuring plan that would see it focus more on core games and digital titles and dropping its kids' licensed games.

For the third quarter ended December 31, 2011,  THQ lost $56 million. Despite strong sales from Saints Row: The Third and WWE '12, the publisher took a major hit in its uDraw game business. Speaking during an investor call yesterday, CFO Paul Pucino revealed the publisher currently has about 1.4 million uDraw units that went unsold, and in total cost THQ about $100 million in revenue.

"We have about 1.4 million units still in inventory that we haven’t sold that we plan on selling," he said. THQ added that about $80 million was lost from unsold uDraw hardware while the remaining $20 million came from price cuts to units that were shipped to retail.

THQ promptly announced it was abandoning its uDraw business. “What we had viewed to be a product that would generate revenues and profits while we continued to build our portfolio of core gaming franchises has instead created a catalyst for us to evaluate our business from top to bottom," noted CEO Brian Farrell.

  • hhhmmmm...good? No wait...
  • this is terrible for THQ I hope they get out of this

  • Give all the unsold merch to Dan, Tim, and Ben... and put Jeffro in charge.  Problem solved and hilarity would ensue.

  • If they aren't sold at an extreme discount, they will be destroyed. Product that exists is still taxed and will continue to be a money pit.

E.T. could phone home with an answer on this one.
  • Make a house out of them. That way you can say that live in a house of mediocrity!!!
  • Answer: LAUGH OUT LOUD Why? Cause i wrote THQ way before this idea went into effect.. but did they listen? nope.. LOL at THQ
  • ooh thats a delima. As good as charity they just cant afford it, and there is no real selling point, so im just glad i dont have to decide.

  • It was beaten by its strong competitor: The No.2 pencil and paper.
  • I really hope THQ makes it through this, they have been around for a long time so it would be sad to see them go under.

How would've thought that picture would be the death of THQ? Hope they bounce back from this and laugh about "the stupid drawing thing that almost killed us" one day.
  • There's one of the biggest problems right there... They manufactured it for Wii... There was so many things that went wrong here, but this is probably the dumbest mistake they made with this device. Such horrible marketing, and the thing isn't very visually descriptive on what it does. Everyone knows that there is no third party support for the Wii.
  • Dump them in the desert next to ET. Really bad idea on THQ's part. What were they thinking!?
  • sell to collectors
  • I'd sell them for 1 dollar each! I'd have 1.4 million dollars!
  • WELL this is what happens when you risk youre finantial future on some gimmicky thing that has almost no games to support it. thq you brought this on youre self. ( edit if anyone gets laid of because of this i feal bad for you)
  • They have no one to blame but themselves. The uDraw was poorly advertised and not enough effort was made to have titles produced for it.
  • I'm sorry, but who would bet so much money on the sales of a peripheral for lackluster games?  No one likes peripherals, they're expensive and very limited on what you can do with them.

  • They're not very smart, are they? Well I'd burn everything but that's just because I like seeing stuff burn.
  • They can draw a million frowny faces or a million dollar signs, so it makes them feel better. Or they could give them to charity.
