Mass Effect Art Book Includes DLC

Pre-ordering a new Mass Effect art book next month gives you downloadable content for Mass Effect 3.

The book, called "Art of the Mass Effect Universe." features concept art and commentary from BioWare on the games' "characters, locations, vehicles, weapons, and more." The book is available at Barnes and Noble stores.

If you pre-order the book, you'll get a code to download extra content on either the PC or Xbox 360 version of Mass Effect 3. "This will include the collector's rifle, among other cool content to beat out your opponents," the listing said.

It was revealed earlier this week that Mass Effect action figures will include download content.

You can pre-order the book right here.

  • Ooo, I might just have to get this. I know my girlfriend will love it. DLC is a nice little bonus.

  • Next they will have underwear with DLC... Come on BioWare, this crap is too much!!! DLC in action figures, DLC with the Collector's Edition. Now this??? Wow, are you actively trying to dilute my excitement for this game???
  • Wow, they're really selling it. cougheacough.
  • This is a bit much.

  • this is getting ridiculous

  • To be fair, this is no more milking the DLC idea then the armor DLC for ME2 with the purchase of a Dr Pepper. Still pretty lame how there has to be DLC for everything. It's not a reward so much as an incentive, but these incentives really don't add much to the gameplay. They just give you extra customization options.

  • Can I buy anything without getting Mass Effect 3 DLC?
  • ...Of course. I'm starting to really hate the concept of DLC, guys. At this point, it's not even something that adds to the game, it's just an incentive to spend more money.
  • so too actually get the full game, $80 for the collector's edition, $60+ in action figures, $39.99 (msrp) for an art book, and whatever post release content they announce and other cross promotion shenanigans they decide to pull from here on out. thanks EA! you're the best!
  • I was really looking forward to this game but all this sh**t with books, and dlc's and this edition and that edition and story/action/rpg mode simply ruining my expectations. Bioware became EA's money grabbing whore. It looks that on 6.3 i will have to install again ME1 (9th playthrough and can't wait).

  • How many alternate rifle skins do we need as DLC >.>. I like art books as much as the next guy but this is getting out there a bit.

  • Give me a clone of that Yvonne Strahovski and we'll talk about getting this, plus the game, and all the freaking figures. Now having her would be some pretty good dlc.

  • Wow, bioware is making me want this game less...

  • This is just ridiculous. If you're going to shove Mass Effect 3 down our throats this much, at LEAST make the DLC available on all platforms. Seriously though? You put DLC with just about everything, then make it exclusive? EA, you're going way way too far. This is corporate greed at it's finest.
  • N7 Mass Effect 3 Collector's Edition - Exclusive DLC + pre-order bonus (Sign me up, where's the nearest Gamestop)

Mass Effect Figurines with DLC (Not worth it/insult)

Mass Effect Universe art book - DLC only with pre-order (Questionable)

This sums it up for me personally. Pre-ordering the N7 Collectors Edition was a no brainier for me. However I still may get the book, but adding DLC is nice but a cheap tactic to get more sells on merchandise.

  • Throwing DLC in as incentive to: Buy X, Register for Y, Tell your friends about Z... I've already said it a few times but I'll say it again - It's been done before with the EA/Bioware Dragon Age 2 stuff. It was cumbersome to gain access to (especially on PSN) and the content unlocked itself was generally worthless.

I'm keeping this history in mind as the Mass Effect 3 pre-release stuff continues to roll out.

  • With every box of Omega-Os, you will get one free DLC!!!
  • Everyone's getting all angry and stuff about all the dlc, but it looks to me that it's just customization options as a reward for buying other products. They are trying to send this story off in a big way. This is the end of commander Shepherd's story.

You're acting like you need this dlc or else you won't be able to play the game. It's just some extra guns you don't even need! Calm down. That art book looks awesome and if I can get something extra for the game to go along with it, great. If you don't want the extra guns then don't buy any extras.

Edit: Reading the description for the extra stuff with this book, it sounds like multiplayer extras, so you really don't need it.
  • Check out these Mass Effect stickers! Now packaged with DLC

  • Huh, with more and more talk about BS including DLC I am losing more and more respect for Bioware and Mass Effect. Wonder if this is what they were planning on?

EDIT: After reading some of the comments - I don't care about EA. The guys at Bioware should fight them and stand up for themselves. This is all to the point of ridiculousness and ends up harming Bioware more than EA since everyone knows Bioware is making the game, not EA. Therefore, Bioware is more closely tied to Mass Effect than EA and will receive the brunt of the hate.
