Mass Effect Figures Include Mass Effect 3 DLC

Perhaps taking a cue from the recent success of Activision's Skylanders, EA will release new Mass Effect action figures later this year that include downloadable content for Mass Effect 3.

According to new listing on BigBadToyStore.com, each figure contains different in-game content exclusive to North America. Below is the product description:

Bonus Downloadable Game Content: Each figure includes an in-pack card giving you access to downloadable in-game bonus content. Each figure contains different in-game content, exclusive to North American released product. Collect all 8 for the full experience!

The BioWare store notes, however, that the content is "slightly randomized during the registration and could include powerful new weapons and new characters. The pack could also include character boosters, weapon modifications, and weapon upgrades to make your multi-player squad stronger. "

The listing also says the content is available for PC and Xbox 360 only.

We've contacted EA for additional comment.

  • I'll take five Yvonne Str...I mean Miranda Lawsons please.
  • Tali, please. http://plasticvideogamecomic.blogspot.com/
  • i think a legion one would be pretty awesome
  • Some of those are really cool. Is Gamestop going to be getting these?
  • Thing with the Skylanders thing, I can imagine as a kid that would be a decent thing to collect and share with friends. These... Not so much.
  • is it going to be costumes or actual missions, if it's missions i will not be happy, I want the figure, but i live in the UK...
  • No PS3? No dice.
  • If the most recent comparable Bioware project (Dragon Age 2) character/item content is any indicator, these codes will be completely negligible... as they should be though. All this "earn this, unlock that" that EA/Bioware does through social networking and such is not something I am a fan of.
  • I miss the old days of gaming. Modern gaming has expanded to the point of being crazy, at least it seems to me. When I buy a game now, I have to sit through at least one day one update, and then wait for the game to install. Want to play online? Stop the game, enter a code, wait for another download. Only two weapons available? Stop the game, spend at least $5 on DLC, (that %90 of the time should've been on the disc anyways) wait for another download. Now they're selling DLC with action figures and such?

I guess I see where there are pros to this set-up. But for me, being someone who just wants to buy the game, take it home and play, it's becoming more of a burden then anything. I just feel like they're peeling layer after layer of our games away, and then taking that, and turning it around into a download that you have to spend more money on. Am I alone in feeling this way?
  • I'm already getting plenty of DLC with my pre-order and with the collectors edition. PLUS I can use the DLC weapons I downloaded with ME2. So I'm 99% sure I don't need to buy some action figures for more weapon DLC.

AND I bet this action figures are WAY overpriced!
  • As it only effect's multiplayer I don't really care.

  • aw c'mon, I'm not buying action figures. This dlc had better be in the collector's.
  • I think this is the first time I thought, Whoa...too much Mass Effect can be a bad thing. If this is the the final entry in the series I can see why they want to squeeze everything out of it. Bioware will be creating bonus content for a long time this way. This will become so trivial at some point you will find special DLC codes in cereal boxes...Canadian cereal boxes, and that's when you know it's over. Hardcore fans will be reduced to a clan of Cap'n Crunch junkies, free-basing that sweet goodness directly into their veins, and downloading the special in-game "Cap'n" helmet for their Commander Shepard. Just wait...it's coming.

  • Take THAT PS3! That's a pretty cool way to get us to buy useless toys.
  • Well that's one way for kids and teenagers to get DLC.

  • New characters???  Oh wait, it's just multiplayer I assume.

    Tali plzzzzzz

  • This honestly makes me want to hurt someone. I started out kinda on the fence about ME3. The trailer they released with him running past all the monsters and stuff, I thought that was awful looking and it lowered the bar for me a good bit. Then I saw some footage of the press demo sent out and it bumped me up to positive. Now this? This drops it back down below where it was when I saw that trailer. They really need to knock this stuff off. It's making me less excited to play the game based on the merits of what's going on around it alone. Absolutely horrendously off putting to see this kinda cash grab going on. I know it has nothing to do with the game developers themselves but man this leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
  • Hmm, not a bad way to get people to buy figures. I'll probably end up getting them all...

  • Eh, this does not make me a happy camper.  What the hell do I want an action figure for to get DLC!!!

    Crappy marketing again EA/BioWare!!

  • That's just not fair. I'm all for DLC when its put to use the right way, but tying DLC to products like this is horrible imo.
