The lights are on
Xbox 360 owners have been confused and annoyed by the Microsoft Points currency setup since the system launched -- or at least I have. If a new rumor is to be believed, though, this frustrating extra bit of calculation for every Xbox Live purchase may be going away very soon.
Inside Mobile Apps reports that the Microsoft Points system will cease to exist by the end of 2012 according to "a source with knowledge of the company's decision." Supposedly the system will be replaced with the sane alternative of using actual cash transactions based on the region the console is set to.
We'll update this story if we're able to hear anything solid from Microsoft or another source. Personally speaking, though, this is one Xbox Live change I would happily get behind.
Confusing? No. Designed to mask the actual amount you're spending and force you to buy points in bulk (sometimes more than you want for the purchase you want to make)? Yes. Get rid of it. PSN uses real money pricing..catch up, XBLA!
Although the system never bothered me it would all just be simpler if we had solid money values.
whats confusing about it?$20 for 1600 $40 for 4000 and if you use your credit card you can purchase 400 and 1000 worth of points via marketplace!so....rothelisberger was like...chuck it,f**k it,FOOTBALL!
I don't find it confusing I'm just happy I won't have left over points that I can't use on anything
I like the points better because when I buy something I feel better paying 1200 points then $20. I know its the same thing but points are little easier to swallow.
i liked this, now i don't have to buy 400 extra points for something that's only 20 or 50 points away from the actual price.
Will Microsoft really give up on this money scam?
I somehow don't think it will happen, "unless" it has to do with putting a stop to the ongoing Xbox hacks abound using the point system of other peoples accounts to make money on Fifa scam.
That makes a lot more sense. The question is: Why did they even use points to begin with? To trick customers? Or to attempt to be clever and innovative?
brain is overloading!
hulk need Banner to come back and fix!
The system was put in place so that the price in MP would be the same in all areas of the world. It also is a tool for more profit because the system does help microsoft make more money, but atleast they had some justification for it.
I wouldn't call it confusing - irksome is more like it.
It always seems that I have to buy $20 worth of points then $5 worth of points twice just to get my DLC fix.
I would have been perfectly fine shelling out straight cash. I like efficiency.
Instead, I'm always stuck with a useless amount of leftover points.
I agree with ya Phil, it's entirely pointless system and Microsoft should just switch to normal currency already. Seriously, this shouldn't be a big deal, lol.
Well switching cash would be a little more convenient for me. But I guess for those incapable of basic math (which Im sure many are). I could see why using just currency would be a good idea.
Having Leftover MS point can be a little jarring, its usually only a dolalr or 2 but theres not much useful i can buy for like 200 ms points maybe a theme or something, those aren't a complete waste of money or anything)
Thank f*cking god. ...I literally have nothing else to say about this. There's no negative. It's just a relief that they'll finally be dropping that absurdly archaic transaction model.
