Sony's Kaz Hirai: No PlayStation 4 Announcement At E3 2012

We've heard plenty of rumors about both Sony and Microsoft prepping new console reveals for E3 later this year, but if the publisher itself is to be believed, at least one of these isn't happening.

The Wall Street Journal reports that at CES, Sony bigwig (and rumored future president of the company) Kaz Hirai denied speculation that they would be revealing a next-generation console at E3 in June.

"I’ve always said a 10-year life cycle for PS3, and there is no reason to go away from that," Hirai explained.

Will you be disappointed if this year's E3 ends up not featuring the hardware announcements that some of us have begun expecting? Or do you secretly hope that Kaz is bluffing so that it will be a bigger surprise when the PS4 is on display?

  • I hope he's lying.
  • Is this like the time Bioware said there would not be multiplayer in Mass Effect 3?
  • It's so top secret, that not even he knows.
  • I don't know if I am ready for a PS4 just yet. I say give it a few more years.
  • Does't matter who's first, I just want to see the next gen already
  • Thank god i think the current consoles are doing fine (minus the wii), i Love my Xbox 360 and PS3. the Games,Graphics, and Design is great, i dont need to have to worry about a new console coming out. Now we can only wait to see if the Next Box rumors will be cut down or not, if Both release in the same window of time, im gonna have to say im gonna have to stick wuth microsoft, but im still looking forward to what the PS4 has to offer, but maybe after 2013
  • Good, PS3 has a long was to go, I mean no dev has really maxed out the cell and the exclusives can carry it a couple more yrs.
  • Why do people want a new console to drop what... 700 bucks on? Ai yi yi people are crazy.
  • What about the next Xbox? Are they gonna reveal it, or is it just going to be a rumor like the PS4?
  • I do not find the lack of announcement this year hard to believe, but 10 years is way too long of a life cycle for one console generation. The current hardware started showing its age to me a year or two ago. And he's saying he wants that same outdated hardware to last until late 2016? x_x
  • NO!

    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

    OOOOOONOOOOOOOONOOOOOONOOONOOONOOONOOONOONOO!!

    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

HE'D BETTER BE LYING!! Don't dissapoint me Sony. PLEEEASE!! >:<!

  • I'm still expecting Microsoft to show a new console. Sony will likely show their new console next year. New Xbox in 2013, PS4 in 2014. On a side note, this would mean that Call of Duty will have the opportunity for a 3 year development cycle to bring in the new console generation. You'll finally get a new engine.
  • I dont even have the PS3 But I have the 1st and 2nd :P
  • I won't be too surprised if they don't announce a new ps3
  • If they announce a new 360 and not a new PS3 I'll be sad :(

  • Wasn't gonna get it anyway :P
  • I forget, how many years into the PS2's lifecycle was the PS3 announced? Anyway, PS3 was released in 2006 in Japan. So it's about time for a new console announcement, 10 year lifecycle or no.
  • there's no telling if he is lying or being serious! but still we still gotta wait for him to make his announcement of PS4, not this year! guess we have to wait!!! :P!
  • I don't really care either way, but I think he may be bluffing.
  • I feel indifferent about new consoles. While I do enjoy seeing new games and graphics... I don't really want to give up my system and have to spend $300+ for a new one and games.
