Sony Denies Kaz Hirai Promotion

Updated Story: Sony has issued a statement denying the report from last week: "Certain media reports were published on January 7th, 2012 regarding Sony Corporation's executive officers' appointments. Sony Corporation has made no announcement in this regard and nothing has been determined at this time."

Original Story: According to a report from Japanese newspaper Nikkei, Kaz Hirai  will take over as president of Sony this April.

Hirai will replace current president Howard Stringer, though Stringer will remain on board as chairman and chief executive officer. Hirai was promoted to deputy president of the company last March and was in charge of Sony's consumer products and services division, which included PlayStation.

When asked for confirmation, a Sony representative told Game Informer the company does not comment on rumor or speculation.

  • "The company does not comment on rumor or speculation." Sony's catchprase?
  • This would solidify Sony's position of "permanent company endangerment".

  • RIDDDGGGEEE RRAACCEERRRRR
  • Great news for Kaz and it's good to see Stringer staying on too.
  • Now he is the Big Kahuna. Kudos to you.

  • What!? His campaign was terrible. "We will make a Ps4 if I'm president" I want the Ps5 like Obama was campaigning.
  • Congratulation Kaz.

  • I happy. I like Kaz, because i think he has great ideas. He was the one who really brought everyone together to design the Vita, so the devs could tell what they wanted.

Hopefully his ideas will have an even bigger impact, because he is going to be president.

  • Free giant enemy crabs for everyone!!
  • He said he would make a PS4 if he was made president so if Kaz is made president, then we could see a PS4 announcement at E3 2012

  • Kaz Hirai is a sensible person he will make reasonable business decisions.

  • Typo: ''According to a report from Japanese newspaper Nikkei, Kaz Hirai  (you have a double space here) will take over as president of Sony this April.''

If this is true, I wonder what his practices will be and how he will decide to lead the company.

  • He'll fit, because he's always been willing to adopt that blustery arrogant persona that Sony so loves.

  • congrats kaz...been a supporter of you for years and i think you did a wonderful job during the playstation hack and also the compensation for us ps players...congrats again...

  • Is he the "599 US dollars" guy?

  • 2 questions, uuuhhhuummm... 1) who is this? and 2) like most americans I own, and play an xbox, so who cares? now let the hate cometh....
  • atleast, they don't replace Kevin Butler!!!wwweeeee....

  • Um, is that a good thing or a bad thing? Just random quest. thats all.

  • I can't say I really follow Sony's business outside of Playstation, so I'm not sure how good this guy is, but he seems like an alright guy. I don't doubt he'll lead the company to more success. Congratulations to him for the promotion.

  • Hope he'll do well!
