The lights are on
Update: Sony's silence on the rumors regarding The Last Guardian creator Fumito Ueda's employment status with developer Team Ico was conspicuous, but now the company has come clean.
Gamasutra reports that it has received an official statement from Sony confirming Ueda's departure from the developer and the project. However, Sony also says that he is finishing his work on the game as a contractor and is "committed to completing" it – confirming the initial rumor.
Last week there was also a report that executive producer Yoshifusa Hayama had left Team Ico.
No official release date has been given for the title.
Update: Last week it was reported that Fumito Ueda, the creator of The Last Guardian, was finishing the game on a freelance capacity and that he had left Sony. Although we're no closer to the truth, Ueda has addressed the situation himself.
Ueda has recently tweeted in Japanese: "Recently, I have been getting a lot of questions…don’t worry, as usual, I’m still working hard on The Last Guardian." It's certainly not as in-depth of an update as we were hoping for, but on the bright side: At least half of the original rumor is true, and Ueda isn't totally abandoning the promising project.
Sony still has not officially commented on Ueda's status.
Original Story: Fumito Ueda, creator of ICO, Shadow of the Colossus, and the still-unreleased The Last Guardian, has reportedly left Sony.
According to sources speaking to Eurogamer, Ueda is currently finishing The Last Guardian in a freelance capacity. The unconfirmed report cites Ueda's exit as one of the reasons the game continues to remain unfinished. It says Ueda will begin work on "person projects" once The Last Guardian is complete.
The long-awaited PlayStation 3 exclusive was originally scheduled to ship this holiday, but Sony delayed the title until 2012.
A Sony spokesperson told Game Informer the company does not comment on rumor or speculation.
I still hope this game turns out to be good.
God. This game better be worth the wait.
i cant imagine this being a good thing
This is not Japan's year.
I'm only sad if he stops making games entirely. As long as he keeps making games, like joins a different company, I don't care.
oooo my woooow... i dont care if he leaves sony .. and move for on his own , i only want him to finish the last guardian ...please...
Hopefully it's just a Rumor.
and is to sand then ...
Maybe that means us Xbox owners can start playing his games. I'd be down with that. Finally played Shadow of the Colossus on the PS2 recently, and that game is amazing.
When can I wake up from this dream?
This BETTER stay a rumor.
If this is true, then not only is it a big blow to Sony, but my faith in this game coming out any time soon (or even at all) will slip. However, as long as he'll still make games, it's still good for us. That said, what will happen to SCEJ now?
Horrible news. What did Sony do that would make him feel so disenfranchised? I thought Sony was pretty fair to Ueda throughout the years, giving them plenty of time and care to release games when they thought them fit to release, right? Perhaps, Sony was pushing too hard on the release for "The Last Guardian"?
for all we know maybe he just wants to move on,like away from making games.maybe the last guardian is his last game.people do what they want all the time.think about it.....as long as the last guardian does'nt get shelved away forever,i'm good.
Maybe he just wants a break from gaming. It does take dude forever to release his games.
