The lights are on
Tony Hawk pulled a cute little trick the other day, tweeting that he had an announcement to make today, which is not-so-coincidentally when the VGA awards are being handed out. Well, now we know a bit more about what exactly he was getting at.
To our relief, it's an HD remix of the first few Tony Hawk games, called Tony Hawk's Pro Skater HD. The fine folks at Joystiq spoke to the skateboarding legend on the red carpet this evening, and Mr. Hawk provided a few fresh details. Think of it as a greatest hits package, with some of the more memorable levels from the first two games, including the school and downhill levels. It's planned to be released digitally sometime in the first half of 2012.
Thankfully it doesn't seem to have anything to do with the ill-fated board peripherals. The fact that it's sticking to the series' roots is just about the best possible news. As it turns out, those games were kind of incredible. Now we just need to be sure that Primus, The Dead Kennedys, and Goldfinger are all on board for the soundtrack. Memories...

Oh man, don't forget Suicide Machines and Millencolin!
Best game soundtrack, ever!
it would be hard going back to the original series after being introduced to THUG series
I hope spider man is unlockable
I loved the classic Tony Hawk games
Is it wierd that when I read this, I started singing superman to myself?
Now where's the 720 remake? Skate or Die!!!!
Nice. The first two games were the best. It would be fun to replay them.
That is a huge relief. I would rather this than any of the new directions they've gone. An actual new game would be preferable though.
Spiderman and Wolverine!
Awesome! This pretty much made my weekend. The Pro Skater series was classic, and I'd love to play them again after all these years.
I loved the first game, i played it all the time when i was little. I'll probably end up picking it up, just for the nostalgia...and cause it was so fun
The original Tony Hawk was one of my favorite games on the original PlayStation. Hell, I played the demo (which was just the warehouse) for ridiculous amounts of time. I'm kind of excited to see this.
some people are saying they shoulddnt re-realease these classic games, theyre probaly the ones that couldnt pass the 1st level lol. i think its great that they are bringing THPS back and on HD. it will defenately bring back memories.
