The lights are on
UPDATE: Just a tiny update here, but Minecraft creator Markus "Notch" Persson has acknowledge the existence of this item and made a fun joke about it on his Twitter account:
"Adding the Toddhowared Pickaxe to Minecraft."
Let's hope that awesome-sounding item actually makes it in!
ORIGINAL STORY: Bethesda's strange legal tangle with Minecraft developer Mojang has been well-documented, but apparently the developer isn't above poking a little fun at themselves related to this situation.
As seen in the screen above (and discovered by Geekology), you can located a "Notched Pickaxe" within the world of Skyrim. This is important both because it has visual similarities to the pickaxe that is key to Minecraft and, of course, because "Notch" is the popular nickname of Minecraft creator Markus Persson.
Of course, in a game as packed full of stuff as Skyrim, it's possible that this is a coincidence or maybe even a quick, clever mod by some snarky fan. I sort of hope it isn't, though!
This isn't the only example of Mojang and Bethesda playing nice with each other. Way back at E3, before these legal troubles started, Notch sat down with Bethesda's Todd Howard for a one-on-one discussion that we filmed.
Where that pikaxe was, there is now a...
*puts on sunglasses*
I'm not very good at this, am I? -_-
lol.. well done =S
well, I loled.
Thats awesome :)
value: 303 WOW pretty good for a pick axe
I bet you nake the Todd Howard pickaxe with legal documents.
I don't see how that has to do with Notch specifically. Whats the message here?
If it is real then I think that is pretty awesome.
And just like that a single player game invokes a "community" feeling. Besides the internet flamers, I love being a gamer :) Nice find!
He should add a briefcase.
Full of guts.
Tod howard Pickaxe of destiny. Allows you to dig your way to oblivion
AND allows you to get one shot killed by snow trolls and giants.
Bare in Mind Todd Howard is the Producer at Bethesda not necessarily anything that has to do with administration, legal work, or marketing. I'm sure Bethesda has other [greedy] people for that.
Im sure there was notched pickaxe in Oblivian too
I was really hoping Ma'iq the Liar would have something to say about all this, but he just told me he didn't care for co-op mode. So I pickpocketed his skooma.
