The lights are on
Sometimes showing a little initiative pays off. After releasing a fan trailer for a Mortal Kombat film reboot, director Kevin Tancharoen was handed the reins of a nine-part web series based on the infamous fighting series. Today comes news that the MK web series has placed Tancharoen in the director's chair for a new Mortal Kombat movie, being made under Warner Bros.' own New Line Cinema label.
The L.A. Times is reporting that New Line is planning to produce the film next year with a tentative 2013 release date. Tancharoen stated that the movie will continue his vision of a more realistic take on the Mortal Kombat universe, though hasn't said if any of the actors from the web series will be reprising their roles, including Jeri Ryan, who played Sonya in the original fan trailer as "a favor to a friend."
I didn't watch the web series, but as long as the film has the iconic theme song from the original Mortal Kombat film, I'll be happy.

Im glad they finally gave Kevin a shot at doing this right.
The only thing I liked about the first Mortal Kombat movie has to be that theme song. I'm not expecting the movie to be wonderful but from being a Mortal Kombat fan since MK1 I feel obligated to be pumped for the movie. Boy do I hope it doesn't blow!
I like his web series, it was a really interesting take on MK. I wonder if the movie will continue the web series or will be something brand new.
Perfect tag for this article. It BETTER have that same amazing theme song!
i never checked out the web show, but i would love another movie
I liked the web series and i loved the rebirth trailer :)
I hope that the characters are the same from the video game.
