[Update] New Mortal Kombat Video Hints At Franchise Rebirth

by Jeff Marchiafava on Jun 09, 2010 at 04:00 AM

[Update]: After being inundated with questions via Twitter, actress Jeri Ryan clarified that she stepped into the boots of Sonya Blade as a favor for a friend.

“Okay, so…Mortal Kombat. It’s not a game trailer,” said Ryan. “Actually was made for the director to sell WB on his vision for a re imagined MK film. I did it as a favor to a friend. No idea yet what WB’s reaction to it was.”

Let’s hope WB enjoyed it as much as we did.

[Original Article] Mortal Kombat has always been a mature video game series for obvious reasons, but when it comes to live action, the spin-off films have always been too cheesy to take seriously. But it looks like that's about to change. A YouTube user by the name of MortalKombatRebirth recently posted an eight minute MK video that's a lot darker in tone (not to mention higher quality) than anything we've seen from the series yet. There hasn't been any announcement of a new movie, so for now we can't say if it's a licensed product or not, but the production values and appearance of several known actors makes us think it's legitimate. The most intriguing possibility, is that the video could be a teaser for a new Mortal Kombat game, perhaps also with a more serious tone. We'll update the story as we learn more. Until then, check out the video below for yourself:
