The lights are on
Id Software has always been good about supporting the developer community by releasing the source code for its older games. Now as the release of id's latest title, Rage, approaches, the developer has promised that Doom 3 source code is coming.
Phoronix has this happy piece of news, which comes courtesy of id co-founder John Carmack's keynote at QuakeCon. According to Carmack, the Doom 3 source code will be made public this year, likely shortly following the October release of Rage.
Anyone excited to dig into the code behind this idTech 4 classic?
I don't do a ton of programming, but I do think it's cool that they have such a community-minded attitude. Can't wait to see what people do with this code.
Yea sure, just wish I knew how. I'll probably get it to put it on the back-burner for later.
I think it is a pretty cool thing for them to do, can't wait till I know what to do with it.
Nope. I'll be to busy with Rage.
That's cool I suppose.
I'm still a newbie at modding and programming, but I know some others that will be VERY interested. I'm curious to see what sort of juice they can squeeze out of this gem. Give it a year or so, and this may turn into a brand new engine.
Classy move.
Good move. Too bad I'm currently still new to programming so I wouldn't know what to do with it.
Cool, hopefully we will see a nice looking batch of indie shooters.
Thought it already was released.. I remember a few mods made from the doom 3 engine
Kotick is getting a lot of face time on GIO today.
Cant wait for this.
I will be there to spawn disgusting creatures.
I can't wait to see the insanity that people create with this.
