EA: Star Wars: The Old Republic's Pre-Order Numbers Are Most In Company History

During its recent conference call, Electronic Arts' bragged that the preorders for MMO Star Wars: The Old Republic from BioWare were the most in the company's history through the first five days.

EA Games' boss Frank Gibeau said that the closest competitor was Battlefield 3, whose own preorder numbers are 10 times that of Battlefield: Bad Company 2. EA and BioWare are currently offering early access to The Old Republic for those that pre-order one of the versions of the game.

Although EA hopes to bring the game out this year, there still is no official release date for the game or for the early access period.

  • Intriguing and expected! I foresee this game demolishing WoW in the coming months.Possibly even surpassing sales for Bf3.I for one don't understand the appeal of these games, but obviously there's a market for them.

Edit: Maybe my statement was a bit farfetched, but I don't see why this game can't succeed when everything is coming together so perfectly.
  • Surprise big not.
  • YEA THEY SHOULD DO LIKE DCUO AND BRING IT TO CONSOLES
  • WOW.
  • I suppose if you want to rack in the cash, release an MMO set in the universe of the most popular Sci-Fi movies of all time(arguably).
  • Sounds like a good year for EA

  • TOR vs MW3 instead of Battlefield?
  • The death of World of Nerdcraft
  • Congrats Bioware!

  • This only means Mass Effect on hiatus...
  • Im 90% sure this will be one of my top 3 games of the year
  • I proudly count myself among them. Heh, this game is going to ROCK.

  • This, Skyrim, Battlefield 3, Mass Effect 3, or Portal 2 are the top games this year, and one of them is going to take the title I can almost assure it.
  • WOW, just wowu

  • im 1 of them!

  • They better darn well get a lot of pre orders, and they also better retain a very solid player base in order to make up for the 80 million buckaroos they spent making this game. Im sure they will, for a time at least. I find it a little odd preorders are offered without a release date. Seems....off. The hype wore off for me awhile back. So I might pick it up, or I might not. But Im certainly not pre ordering. I'll have to wait for the NDA to lift to get any real idea if this game is even for me or not. After the first Mass Effect, I worshiped Bioware. Since then my fandom depletes a little more each year. And Star Wars is very cool stuff, but not enough to sell me on this game either.
  • Well now all they need to do is release it.

  • If anyone is still curious as to why there isn't a release date it's more that they really don't want Blizzard to downplay there launch with a Content patch that drags people who were thinking about getting SWTOR back into WoW However by now if they just announce the release date like a month before it comes out they've missed so many big Publicity moments to get the release date out that they are going to shoot themselves in the foot with the more casually interested customers. Not that I'd care, game will take up a few months, hopefully, of my time at least.
  • Shocker.

  • For a sec I thought this was Battlefront III. Nevermind, nevermind. I want this game. So. Bad.
