Nintendo's Zelda Mastermind Wishes He Could Work On Something Else

by Phil Kollar on Jul 14, 2011 at 02:15 PM

The Zelda series maybe a stalwart fan favorite for Nintendo faithful, but longtime series producer Eiji Aonuma has admitted in a recent interview that he's always hoping to come up with an entirely new concept.

Speaking to IndustryGamers, Aonuma said he "always wants to work on something new" and explained the painful process that keeps him tied to the Zelda franchise:

"It just turns out that as I’m coming up with these ideas along the way, I realize, 'Y’know, this could really work on a Zelda game.' And it sort filters back into it and in the end, we come back into another Zelda project. So in some ways, it’s a bit of a challenge for me personally that Zelda ends up becoming this pool of my ideas and it keeps absorbing the ideas I have and they get integrated back into Zelda games. But that’s just sort of the way it’s flown for me."

As much as I don't mind the continued arrival of new Zelda titles with unique ideas from Aonuma, here's to hoping that this talented game designer gets a chance to work on something brand new sometime soon.
