Square Enix Talks About Final Fantasy Rhythm Game

Square Enix has revealed the first details for its upcoming 3DS game Theatrhythm Final Fantasy. Surprisingly, the project did not start as a crazy bet to come up with a name stupider than Dissidia 012 Final Fantasy.

Theatrhythm involves forming a party of four Final Fantasy characters drawing from all of the core numbered entries. Then, using rhythm-based gameplay, you play through songs like "One Winged Angel," leveling up and collecting music and movies along the way.

Square Enix hasn't explained exactly how the music gameplay works, but the company did mention that the three stage types – field, battle, and event – each use different systems.

That sounds interesting and all, but I'd much happier if Square Enix were talking about Final Fantasy Versus XIII instead.

So this is DDR meets the traditional FF gameplay meets Rock Band? Ouch, SquareEnix. And yeah, "That sounds interesting and all, but I'd much happier if Square Enix were talking about Final Fantasy Versus XIII instead" sums up my feelings about this announcement too.

I'm not sure what to make of this. FF music is great, of course, but to make a whole game based on it? I guess I'll have to wait for more information.

It seems like Square Enix likes release all they games players don't ask for, while holding back on games we do want.

I mean did anyone at the end of FF13 really think,"Wow, I really wish they'd make a direct sequel."

Looks cool. I would like to hear news about Versus XIII but the staff who is normally incharge of Final Fantasy games is not working on Versus XIII, its the ones behind Kingdom Hearts, thats why Square Enix is revealing other games like this and XIII-2, and thats why we didn't saw KH and Versus XIII news at e3. They have to much work, well let them take theyre time.

*Sigh* I agree with you Joe. I mean I know that this is a different team than the one working on Versus XIII, but Square Enix is really dragging their feet with that game. And another thing, I've recently heard that Square Enix is debating on whether or not to release Final Fantasy Type-0 here in the states because they're worried it won't sell well because of the lackluster sales their other PSP games they've recently released. And then they announce this "Theatrhythm" game which I'm sure they'll release here in the states with no questions asked and it's going to be a game that the majority of fans won't even care about. I seriously wonder what's wrong with Square Enix lately.

I couldn't agree with you more Joe, I really wanna hear more news on Versus XIII as well. I actually don't even know what to think about this. Sounds like it could be fun to play....but idk.
