Official Final Fantasy Versus XIII Trailer Releases

A new video featuring six minutes of game footage reveals new details regarding how the upcoming Final Fantasy game from Square Enix plays.

Last week, we reported on a leaked video showing off a good bit of Final Fantasy Versus XIII, the oddly named new game from Square Enix. That footage has since been pulled from YouTube. In its place, the publisher has released a higher resolution, official version of the video.

The first half of the video mostly shows off some of the oh-so-pretty cinematics, but there's plenty of battle footage in the second half, including an amazing fight against a Behemoth. At first glance, the gameplay shares more in common with Kingdom Hearts-style combat than the traditional Final Fantasy games. This makes sense, as Versus XIII is being directed by Tetsuya Nomura, the chief architect of the Kingdom Hearts series.

This game is looking VERY good. The wait is killer though. Also, we finally get to hear Noctis talk! I wonder how he'll sound in English.

It's pretty good... but I see nothing outstanding that really justifies the lengthy development time this game has had.

I guess it's good that they're making use of KH's gameplay, considering they're doing their damnedest to kill that series.

I'm all for that... but for some reason this felt like a handheld game to me?

The last Final Fantasy game I played was Crystal Chronicles, the first one.Before that, it was 7... The only other RPG I've played(and enjoyed) was Grandia 2, on the DreamCast... Uhhh what's a RPG again?

This game looks to be addressing the failures of the recent FF titles (and all JRPGs as of late for that matter). The design reminds me more of FFVI and VII as opposed to X and XIII, which is a VERY good thing. I don't know why they don't just call this FFXIV and focus on it as their next big title. Screw FFXII-2.

Oh wow. I'm definitely gonna have to get this. It's like the type of game i've been DYING to play, since Kinghom Hearts 3 isn't happening anytime soon, apparently. i'm usually not into turn based RPG's, so this type of gameplay is right up my alley. the only RPG's i've ever played and enjoyed were Mario RPG and Grandia II. Although i played Tales of Symphonia and Vasperia and loved those too, they weren't turn based though.

I'm pretty unimpressed with that game footage.

It looked very similar to the FFX opening, and I couldn't tell the party members a part because they wearing the same clothes.

I'll be looking forward for the review...whenever that may be. Outside of that, I'm not sure I find this game unique enough to be psyched about it.

So a FF with KH attack system and amazing graphics. Coupled with a well written story and this could be one of my favorite games of all time.

OH MY GOD A NEW FINAL FANTASY THAT MIGHT NOT SUCK?

I am excited because Nomura is directing it.He has a good collection of games, even if KH is getting kind of lame.I think it's nice to see him doing a different project.

I really like the modern setting. It's interesting. The mech? control looks like a fun feature...

As always the graphics are beautiful. I also really liked the music that was in the trailer.

this is depressing. I had hoped Square would multi platform this like FF13, but it doesn't look that way so far. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

I think this is now my most anticipated game of all time, KH2 is my favorite game ever, and i love everything Nomura makes. I know its an odd choice for a favorite game but i just always loved the flow of gameplay and story. These graphics mixed with that gameplay and a ultra good story that usually comes from a FF game(i for one liked FFXIII's story, havent beaten it yet thpugh) will be absolutely incredible!!!! Great Video!
