Capcom Explains Permanent Saved Games In Resident Evil: The Mercenaries

by Phil Kollar on Jun 28, 2011 at 11:47 AM

Some fans reading up on Capcom's new Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D this week were upset to discover that the game does not feature the ability to clear saved data. In particular, some gamers are accusing Capcom of taking this step to try to stem used game sales. Capcom is claiming that this is not the case.

Speaking to Gamasutra, a representative from Capcom explained why this design decision was made:

"The nature of the game invites high levels of replayability in order to improve mission scores. In addition, this feature does not remove any content available for users. Secondhand game sales were not a factor in this development decision, so we hope that all our consumers will be able to enjoy the entirety of the survival-action experiences that the game does offer."

It still seems like a strange decision, but there you have it. Does the inability to delete saved data bother you or make it less likely that you'll pick up The Mercenaries 3D? It certainly didn't stop our reviewer, Tim Turi, from enjoying it.
